Yāoguài/Yōkai
Yāoguài (Mandarin) or yōkai (Japanese) (妖怪, lit. "strange apparition") are a class of supernatural entities found throughout the world well-described in East Asian folklore. They are often translated into English as "demons"; however, they are distinct from the demons that are created from the essence of Hell called 魔 (Mandarin: mó, Japanese: akuma). A more appropriate translation may be "monsters".
Origin
Yāoguài are creatures whose qì have been tainted by an unknown element and transformed into distorted versions of their original selves. An additional consequence of their abnormal qì called yāogqì or yōki(妖気)is that these creatures gain supernatural powers similar to magic called demonic arts(妖術, Mandarin: yāoshù, Japanese: yōjutsu).List of Yāoguài
