Werewolf

The werewolf (or lycanthrope) is one of the most well-known yōkai in the European sphere of influence. The original werewolf was a human cursed to turn into a human-wolf hybrid during a full moon and loses control of himself during the transformation. Descendants of this being became able to shape-shift at any time and draws on the enhanced physique of the werewolf; their power is heightened by the presence of the full moon. Those bitten by or receives werewolf blood also become werewolves.


 

Etymology

The Modern English werewolf derives from Old English werwulf ('man-wolf'). Lyncanthrope derives from Ancient Greek λυκάνθρωπος (lykánthrōpos, 'wolf-human').

 

Abilities

In their human form, werewolves are already in peak physical condition—being able to match the top athletes and have better durability and endurance. When transformed into their humanoid wolf form, they can lift a few tons with ease, move at imperceptible speeds, and can recover from blunt trauma rapidly.

 

Weaknesses

Werewolves are weak against silver, wolfsbane, and fire.
