- I think the conical gnome hats that everyone associates with gnomes is really a type of wizard's hat, but not in the way you might think. Not all gnomes are wizards and not everyone who wears a conical hat is a wizard, either.
- No! It is a student's hat! Modeled after the wizard's no-brim pointy hat. It takes years, if not decades, of study in universities for people to become wizards (like doctors). Laypeople would see these hats and began to equate the hats, and robes, with study.
- People started wearing it as a charm or superstition to invoke the diligence of wizards and eventually all schools started to adopt them.
- Now it has mostly fallen out of fashion, but some schools and cultures, like the Gnomes, still use them.
