Sintike (ˈsɪn.taɪk)
Sintike is the northernmost of the Kaphtor Islands. It is known for having the most skilled smiths and metalworkers in the Kaphtor Islands, and also it is a notorious haven for pirates. The island is largely populated by the Kábeiroi Phylí, who are known for being taller and more muscular than the other Kaphtori phylai. It was members of the Kábeiroi Phylí who first discovered the great turtle Tortuka and nursed it back to health, and the inhabitants of Sintike retain close connections to the Tortukan pirates to this day.
The largest settlement on Sintike is Káspakas. This port is on the west coast of the island, and is the source of much of the finest metalwork available for purchase throughout the region. The harbor at Káspakas is the only dock on Sintike that has some shelter from the strong winds that are common across the rest of the island.
Notable Spirits
While it is not the highest mountain on the island, the volcano called Sidirourgeío is the home to the god most revered by the Kábeiroi, Polymetis. He is the god of the forge and crafting, and is also known to love cleverness, riddles, and practical jokes. Priests of Polymetis compete with each other to create the most difficult and impressive puzzles, either out of metal or of words. Every spring, the Kábeiroi hold the Aínigma festival in Polymetis's honor, where all comers may compete in games of skill, cleverness, and craftsmanship. The god himself is said to bless the winners, and those who have triumphed at Aínigma often go on to become famous for their works.
Geography
Sintike is a primarily flat island, especially compared to the rest of the Kaphtor Islands. The western half of the island is somewhat mountainous, with peaks reaching a little over 1400 feet. There is a region in the northern part of the island known as Oi Ammólofoi, or 'The Dunes'. It is a seven hectacre area of sand dunes, and legend claims that it once was a great lagoon that was cut away from the sea.
Climate
The island's climate is mild, with warm summers and cool winters. Snow will fall very occasionally in winter, and years may pass between snowfalls. The island is known for its strong winds, especially during the late summer, fall, and winter. Sintike has the coolest climate of any of the Kaphtor Islands.
