Stonespace is one of the elemental-aligned systems within The Maelstrom, aligned most closely with the element of earth. It was the fourth system to achieve weftsail technology, rather longer after the inhabitants of its neighbor, Sailspace. Stonespace is a system with nine planets and their many moons orbiting a central orange dwarf sun, seven of which bear life on their surfaces and almost all of which are inhabited, and an outer white dwarf star. It is also notable for its vast, dense debris ring, called the Vein, which shares an atmosphere under its relatively light collective gravity.

Geography

Stonespace consists of a central orange dwarf, called Ruby by the locals, an outer white dwarf star called Diamond, and seven major planetary bodies that orbit the central star at varying distances. The system also has two major debris fields: the Vein between the Jade-Amber binary and Opal; and the Scatter beyond the orbit of Diamond. All of the major bodies have at least one moon, often more. The system's nominal habitable zone extends from 0.46 AU to 0.88 AU, and contains the Vein and five planetary bodies that support life: Emerald, Jade, Amber, Malachi, and Azure. Life also exists on Sapphire and Lapis as complex exotic biochemistry.
Stonespace is most notable for its vast, dense debris ring, called the Vein, composed of asteroids that all share an atmosphere under their collective gravity. The Vein, with a surface area millions of times greater than the surface of an average habitable world, is home to dozens of civilizations and millions of species. Countless artificial objects and natural formations are found within the Vein, including untold numbers of shipwrecks and ancient ruins. Notable locations include the Bore, a megastructure built to drill into large asteroids; Geodesicon, a worldshell built by an ancient dwarven civilization; and Landfall, a planet that was shattered long ago.

Ecosystem

Stonespace is home to an impressive diversity of life across half a dozen planets and moons. This astounding array of ecosystems includes a large number of sapients, some closely related to the other species of The Maelstrom and a few related to the beings of The Radiant Triangle, but most only native to Stonespace itself.
