Pyrespace is one of the elemental-aligned systems within The Maelstrom, aligned most closely with the element of fire. It was the fifth system to achieve weftsail technology, well after is neighbor, Songspace. Pyrespace is a system with seven planets and their few moons orbiting an orange subgiant star, only three of which bear life on their surfaces, though almost all major bodies are inhabited. It is also notable for its large, hot debris ring, called the Cinders, which shares an atmosphere and biosphere, and a nebula-like dust disk further out called the Smoke Ring. Pyrespace, despite having a broad habitable zone, only hosts a limited amount of lifebearing worlds because of the simple fact that -ironically enough- the central sun is dying, and has been for millennia.

Geography

Pyrespace consists of a central orange subgiant, called the Pyre by the locals, and six major planetary bodies that orbit the central star at varying distances. The system also has four major debris fields: the Coals between the Pyre and Scorch; the Cinders between Singe and Hearth; the Smoke Ring between Quell and Ashen; and the Shroud beyond the orbit of Wanelight. All of the major bodies apart from Scorch, Singe, and Wanelight have at least one moon, often more. The system's nominal habitable zone extends from 3.2 AU to 6 AU, however despite its width it contains only three planetary bodies that support life: Hearth, Emberal, and Quell. The Cinders also host life, though it is exotic in nature.

Ecosystem

Pyrespace is home to a moderate diversity of life, limited to three planets. This includes an appreciable number of sapients, some closely related to the other species of The Maelstrom and a few related to the beings of The Radiant Triangle, but most only native to Pyrespace itself.
