Cloudspace

Created by Spyglass
Cloudspace is one of the elemental-aligned systems within The Maelstrom, aligned most closely with the element of air. It was the second system to achieve weftsail technology, very shortly after the inhabitants of its closest neighbor, Sailspace. Cloudspace is a system with seven planets and their many moons orbiting a pair of yellow-white and orange suns, seven of which bear life on their surfaces and almost all of which are inhabited. It is also notable for its vast temperate debris ring, called the Front, which shares an atmosphere and hydrosphere under its relatively light collective gravity.

Geography

Cloudspace consists of a central pair of stars, the yellow-white Aether and bright orange Aeolon, and seven major planets that orbit it at varying distances. The system also has two major debris fields: the Front between Rainfall and Typhoon; and the Blizzard beyond the orbit of Snowfall. All of the major bodies except for Firestorm and Sandwhirl have at least one moon, often more. The system's nominal habitable zone extends from 1.5 AU to 2.8 AU, and contains the Front and seven planetary bodies that support life: Rainfall and its two moons, and Typhoon and its three moons.   Cloudspace is most notable for its enormous debris ring, called the Front, composed of plant-covered asteroids that all share air and water. The Front, with a surface area millions of times greater than the surface of an average habitable world, is home to dozens and dozens of civilizations and millions of species. Thousands of artificial objects and natural formations dot the endless sky-isles of the Front, including countless shipwrecks, ruins, and secret pirate treasure stashes. Notable locations include the Nor'easter, a cluster of decaying comets; the Torrent, a stream of water that winds through the center of the Front; and Monsoon's End, a ring-shaped spaceport on the outer edge of the Front.   SYSTEM MAJOR BODIES

Ecosystem

Cloudspace is home to an incredible diversity of life across half a dozen planets and moons. This broad array of ecosystems includes a large number of sapients, some closely related to the other species of The Maelstrom and a few related to the beings of The Radiant Triangle, but most only native to Cloudspace itself.
