Wesel Dashadir

In the armour store, you find a man putting a suit of armour in a barrel of sand. His muscular build indicates that he owns the store, and the long scar on his arm shows that he knows the importance of good armour. His skin is dark, the colour of tree bark, where it peeks out from underneath his dark green shirt. As he turns to take a look at you, you can see there is a curved sword attached to his waist but a bright smile on his face.   "Well, look who's decided to roll on in." the man's low voice replies. "What can I do for ye?"

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Wesel has the darker skin of the Hayim and is very muscular. A deep scar traces the area around the middle of his left arm. Despite his harsh appearance, he often wears a smile and is willing to jibe at a moment's notice.

Body Features

His skin is a bronze colour, a product of his Hayim heritage and a long life in the sun.

Facial Features

He usually carries a kind expression, although this smile will drop if guards are involved in any way. His face has the beginnings of wrinkles at the edges and he usually has a short beard.

Identifying Characteristics

He has one nasty scar on his left arm from when he had to rough up a merchant during his Thieves' Collective days, although he'll claim that it's from an encounter with a thief in his youth.

Apparel & Accessories

Wesel often wears middle class clothing, opting for darker colours such as grey, brown, or green. His trousers are often tattered from long use in the smithy, although he has a nicer pair for special occasions. He has a silver ring on his finger, which is his wedding ring.

Specialized Equipment

Wesel is well-versed in the swordplay of the Hayim, and will not hesitate to use it if threatened. Because of this, he commonly carries a curved Hayim scimitar on him. He has a suit of dusty padded leather armour in his house in case he needs it, but he almost never does.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Wesel's family is descended from a group of Hayim people who flourished under Gratic rule and fled the destruction of the Red Rose War. His parents still live in the small Schintian village where they settled after his birth, but bandits and danger in the mountain passes means he cannot visit them. When he was fifteen, he left his family to go become a blacksmith in Eleikar Town and ended up doing heavy lifting for the local Thieves' Collective branch while becoming versed in smithing. After leaving the guild, he settled in Freebrook some five years later. He's run the armoury of the town ever since.

Employment

  • Spent much of his youth as a farmer helping out on his family's land with his two brothers
  • Learned the blacksmith's trade when he went back to Eleikar Town, and has been practicing it ever since.
  • Is well versed in some basic Thieves' Collective signals and trade secrets from his time doing hard labour for them.
  • Intellectual Characteristics

Wesel has an innate distrust of authority, picked up from his time in the Thieves' Collective. This manifests as a sarcastic or downright disrespectful tone with guards or the Magistrate.   He also is very competitive, constantly comparing his work and Karin Nemed's weapon shop next door to prove that he is the better smith. This may come from his upbringing in a majority Gratic town, where his Hayim ancestry was often used to discount him.

    Morality & Philosophy

Wesel is an all-around good person, but he isn't above getting a little sarcastic with guards if the situation or even downright unkind to them if the situation is bad enough.

    Taboos

Wesel is not one for getting involved with authority figures, so he tries to avoid going to see guards as little as possible. This fear can be used by anyone wanting to blackmail him or rob him.

    Personality Characteristics

    Motivation

Wesel is driven to be the best smith in town, which many people give him as a result of his drive. Otherwise, he still keeps to the Pantheon of the Hayim and in pursuit of the ideals of that institution he tries to do as much good as possible.

    Savvies & Ineptitudes

  • Very knowledgeable about the smithing process, especially the manufacture and sale of armour. If anyone ever needs to know anything about armour, people in town will direct them to Wesel's shop.
  • Wesel knows a lot about the Pantheon of the Hayim, having been a devoted worshipper of that religion in his youth. Similarly, he is very knowledgeable about the Thieves' Collective, although he won't ever admit it.
  • He rarely keeps his shop clean, however, as he is horrible at keeping things tidy.
  • Likes & Dislikes

  • A dislike of authority, particularly guards
  • A secret love of violence, although it has been years since he ever engaged in it willingly.
  • Virtues & Personality perks

He is a generally good person, having dedicated himself to Yali at a young age. Because of his patronage of Her, he is very protective and competitive, taking his love for smithing as a sort of military service in Her name.   Due to his upbringing, he is also adept at keeping secrets for people.

    Vices & Personality flaws

He can be easily angered and is prone to violence.   He also has secrets relating to his past which, if they came to light, might spell the end of his life.

    Hygiene

He is rubbish at keeping things that aren't armour clean, with dust being all over his shop and constant tripping over the various bits of metal and leather lying around. His house is better, but that's due to his wife more than anything.

    Social

    Contacts & Relations

He can theoretically contact his colleagues in the Thieves' Collective, but loathes to do so unless absolutely necessary.

    Family Ties

He has a wife, Kker, and an infant son. His family live in a small village just south of Eleikar Town, and he would love to visit them some day.

    Religious Views

Wesel holds to the gods of the Hayim, even though he hasn't been to a service in years due to Freebrook not having a temple of that religion. He has a small shrine at home, but he even admits that "it's not quite the same."

    Social Aptitude

Wesel mostly keeps to himself, not wanting to create a big stir in the community. He is very confidant, willing to make jibes at the expense of the guards even when they're present. He is somewhat egotistical, obsessed with being the best and not above a bit of friendly sabotage to get there.

    Mannerisms

Wesel likes to gesture with his hands when speaking, like many Hayim.

    Hobbies & Pets

Wesel's armoury occupies much of his time, but he does have a couple of novels at home to while away the hours on slower days.

    Speech

His Hayim accent is very light, but noticeable. He speaks in a low rumble and is fond of sarcastic insults.

    Wealth & Financial state

Wesel's job keeps him very busy, as guards who want to get their armour polished often go to him. This means that he does very well financially speaking. He doesn't have a large amount of money on him all the same, as he constantly has to buy supplies from Gratic City to keep the shop running smoothly.
