The Thieves' Collective

"As I travelled down the road toward the Nestled Nook, I felt a stray hand catch me on the shoulder, sending me tumbling into the dirt. Brushing myself off, I heard a deep voice apologize for the commotion. He was late for a delivery, he said, and he didn't want to get himself in trouble. I said that it was no problem at all. As he turned to run off, I noticed his hands were on the pair of daggers at his waist, but I didn't put the information together until I got to the inn.   Just as I was paying for my meal, I noticed that my money pouch had been cut open."   ~Égert Sarasté, Lost Tales of the Essic Countryside, Vol. 1

Structure

The hierarchy of the guild is loose, with each guild house being in charge of its own city and a council of guild heads being in place to settle disputes. Otherwise, the guild leaders each set up their networks of bribed guards, bribed merchants and fences, and informants. There is talk that a select few among the Collective may become members of an "inner circle", although the goals of this organization are not known.

Public Agenda

  • The redistribution of wealth from the richest members of society to the poorest ones.
  • The protection of those wrongly accused of crimes.
  • The acquisition of knowledge regarding political goings-on in their local area and the nation at large.
  • Assets

Because of its very nature, the Thieves' Collective is rather wealthy, although they spend it all rather quickly on bribes and informants. They are otherwise quite modest, not having political or military power in The Empire.

    History

Wherever there is great wealth, there is always someone to steal it; at least, that's how the saying goes. The Collective grew out multiple competing guilds, all trying to accomplish the same goal. This goal was to steal from the rich and give it to the poor and vulnerable in society. Of course, they've always had a rocky relationship with the law, and their guild house locations and informants' names are kept secret.
