In the shop, the thin Gratic woman behind the counter idly spins a ring, staring off into the distance. Looking carefully, you can see that she has a pair of thick eyebrows and long dark hair that is hard to see in the darkness of the store. Her tunic and her trousers are blue, marking her as doing rather well despite the disorder of the store.
She looks up with a start as soon as she realizes that you are in the shop. "Hello." she murmurs out in a strained voice. "I'm Ala, and I'm in charge around here. Is there anything around that tickles your fancy?"

Ala is fairly thin and not particularly athletic, tending to rely on stealth rather than strength.

Her face is pock-marked from catching something in her youth that never quite healed, and it disfigures her face significantly.

She sticks to drab clothing, mostly beige tunics and trousers which makes it easier to blend into the crowd. When she's in her shop, she'll be wearing greens or blues so as to stand out amongst the various bits of junk that litter the place.

She carries lockpicks and a dagger for breaking into places and she keeps a chest full of disguises at her home.

Personal history

Ala spent much of her childhood on the streets of Freeport, the illegitimate daughter of a sailor and a florist that was abandoned at a young age. She got by stealing from sailors and guards, until one time, at the age of sixteen, she was caught and sentenced to prison. But The Thieves' Collective had been interested in her for months, and they freed her under the condition that she worked for them. Setting her up as a scout in Freebrook, they instructed her to set up a shop that she would use as a front while she continued her thieving activities and kept an eye out for likely recruits. She was nearly caught stealing from the Magistrate's bag once, but has generally gone undetected for years.
The Drakeslayers once visited her shop in search of Darantus Slénami's stolen books. She was innocent in the matter.

Education

She was taught how to use disguises and thieves' tools by the Thieves' Collective.

Employment

Her own "proper" employment is running the used-goods store, although her real work is thievery and has been since she was little.

Intellectual Characteristics

She has a very analytical mind, being adept at determining whether someone is a worthwhile target for theft. When she's not "on the job", she uses this to figure out which customers are trying to swindle her and which are being honest about the worth of their items.

Morality & Philosophy

As can be expected of a thief, she doesn't have a strong moral compass, and isn't above stealing from the rich or powerful. She definitely isn't a Robin Hood, though, and tends to keep her ill-gotten gains to herself.

Motivation

Alana is always building up to a heist of some sort, with her eyes constantly on the wealth and privilege of the Magistrate. Her dream is to one day steal something massive from him, such as a chest of gold or a precious jewel. However, she's been planning the theft for months and rarely gets any useful information that would help her with her plot.

She isn't very knowledgeable about the various items in her shop, as she doesn't spend a huge amount of time there.

She loves nice things, and she has a significant collection of stolen trinkets and accessories. Some of these items find their way into her shop after a certain amount of time has passed.

She isn't one for idle chats and prefers to get straight to the point.

She may have a very steady hand, but her resolve is equally unshakeable; when she says that she will do something, she will do it.

While she may not give her spoils to the poor, she isn't unkind and may be found giving money to beggars and orphans.

Alana goes to services but doesn't put a lot of faith in religion. After all, in her mind, if there are gods out there, why is there so much death and injustice?

She prefers to go under the radar, refusing to get too close to anyone. She has few friends, but she isn't a recluse. She has a confidence that she doesn't like to show off. Her etiquette is good, but she rarely uses it.

A lifetime of stolen goods has made Alana quite rich, although she prefers to hoard her various treasures rather than show them off. She may carry the occasional ring or necklace, but she carefully hides the wealth that she has out of fear of discovery. Her house is fairly common in appearance, but she has hiding places and caches hidden all over town for her contraband.
