Viron

Your first destination after leaving your hometown is to travel to Viron. You've heard tales of the place from your books and stories, describing it as a great "home of heroes". You love the stories, but your mind turns to one book in particular as you make your way across Loria:
Viron is the home of heroes. Its people are stalwart against the terrible creatures of the woods and the plains, their hearts strong against the temptation to do evil. I have yet to meet anyone unkind or cowardly from Viron...   But Viron itself is a different story: their lands seem uninteresting enough, a simple river and a forest to break up the monotony of the plains. Even the manor of Lord Viróna is not particularly inspiring, given the stories of horrendous monstrosities that have attempted to breach its walls. All that said, understand that some of the strongest heroes come from humble beginnings...   ~Tashil Vastarwë, A Traveller's Guide to Loria

Defences

The village relies on its guards and the sheer height of Dostar Fortress to keep it safe from invaders, particularly the gnolls that live in the forest.

Infrastructure

The city has a somewhat famous bridge that crosses the mighty Nomën River, one of the very few bridges in the nation that are not tied to the Air Train tracks. The great fortress of Dostar is also located here, overlooking the village from the hillside. Other important buildings, such as the main plaza and shops, are located at the base of this hill.

Guilds and Factions

A group of adventurers known as the Viron Blades hail from this village, in particular the current Lord's daughter Élise Viróna. Other adventuring groups in the past have come from this area.

History

The village has been an important part of the landscape of the western part of Loria since the days of the Star Empire. The village's major claim to fame, however, was its involvement with the Farmer's Rebellion of 4E 338. The leader of the rebellion, Émli Wafora, was born and raised here, and some of her early supporters lived here. The village's lord was killed early on in the rebellion, leading to anarchy in the region before the return of the lord's daughter and the restoration of peace.

Geography

The village lies in the valley of the Nomën River. The area is surrounded by a small forest, barely a few miles across. The Dostar Fortress takes up a large hill at the western edge of town, with the various major buildings of the town located at the bottom of this hill.

Local Resources

The town is located at the edge of a small forested region, so lumber is rather plentiful. The river mud provides a significant amount of clay and silt, which is perfect for brick-making. The agricultural bounty of the land is beyond compare, with some recent farmers displaced by conflict to the south coming here specifically to rebuild their lives.

Demographics

The village of Viron accepts a significant variety of people, with Lorian tepilar making up the majority of the town's inhabitants. A large number of astanlar and zëganilar live here as well, and a few families of vidashlar have also recently settled here.

Local Government

This area is ruled by a titled Lord of the Viróna family, who have ruled the region for innumerable generations. This lord is in charge of the local guard, collecting the required taxes from his people to pay to the King in Lerdelore.
