  • What Happened

Gúrda was the first to wake up, rising at dawn as is normal for them. They went downstairs to discover that the tavern was nearly empty, with Salam in the back room. A little short on cash, Gúrda stole a couple of coins from the town drunk, Dógar, who was slumped over a table, fast asleep. Pocketing the cash, Gúrda then ran into Salam, who had just come out of the back room. After procuring some breakfast and directions to nearby points of interest from Salam, Gúrda went to a table and Salam decided to get Dógar awake by pouring a bucket of water on his head. This led to Dógar clocking Salam in the jaw and Gúrda making quick work of their breakfast.   It was around this time that Geort awoke and made his way down to the Dargin's Den, still suffering a hangover from last night. There, he had a conversation with Emet, who was running the bar while Peri cleaned up the various messes from last night. During the course of their conversation, Geort learned that a "creature of living fire" had been seen out in the wilds east of town and asked that Emet report it to the guards. After bringing the tired guards out to the inn only to say this, Emet and Peri went about cleaning.   Then, Melé came down into the bottom level of the Dargin's Den, prompting Emet to ask Geort to find out about this strangely mute traveller. Geort was able to strike up a conversation, finding out her name and asking after her large sword. She was, as usual, not very forthcoming, preferring to have breakfast in silence. However, Geort let it slip that he was looking for somewhere to make some money, and Melé replied that she, too, was in search of work. The two decided to take a look around the town, but not before Daz found them and followed them outside.   It was at this moment that Geort bumped into Gúrda, and the two decided to head to services at the Freebrook Temple of Alté. For Gúrda, it was her first time going to such a religious event, and for Geort, it was the first time since his flight from the capital, so both listened intently to Varen's sermon and announcements. When Varen made an announcement, direct from the High Priest of the Imperial Temple himself, that members of The Dragon Heresy had been found in the capital, Geort shuddered a little and touched the dragon necklace around his neck. Daz was also in attendance, although he was mostly there to see Geort.   Outside, the four of them all met together for the first time, where Daz attempted to explain his problem but could not find an opportunity due to the bustle and noise of the market. When he attempted to bring Geort and Melé aside to try and find out their willingness to help him with his quest, a shout rang out across the square, sending the trio over to the source. There, they found the Magistrate's horse suddenly bucking and then racing off, the Magistrate barely holding on, and poor little Nib as his body became consumed by the repressed magic inside of him. Then, a trio of figures broke from the crowd and shed their disguises, revealing themselves to be fire and earth elementals.   After a long and harrowing fight, where Gúrda transformed into a wolf and ripped one of the earth elementals to pieces and Daz was able to calm Nib down and prevent him from dying, the guards showed up, having been summoned to the scene by passerby. The guards, led by Captain Aslgar, then had Nib taken away to face trial later for his crimes, and the four heroes were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the events. It was only a well-placed word from Daz that prevented the four from being dragged off in chains, but they still have to report to the guardhouse immediately.
