    The early days
    Era beginning/end

In the early days of the first era, the Valley was a place where Lawgivers could come and hone their skills, in relative seclusion of the madness and hedonism of the rest of society. After a while, more and more Solars made sure that their household would accompany them on this journey and so the smaller settlements came to be. As time went on, settlements became towns and some towns eventually grew into large metropolises.   After the betrayal, an all-encompassing civil war broke out in the valley between solar loyalists and those siding with the princes of the earth. The region split into factions and the following years of bloodshed, betrayal, and destruction caused many to leave the valley. After that, the great contagion annihilated a significant portion of those who had remained, weakening all factions. So that when the Fair Folk invasion came to pass only the Stalward Kingdom, the most militaristic and well-armed nation, managed to withstand the forces of the Wyld.   The Valley and what was left of civilization there fell into animosity, secluded but also in a way guarded by its surrounding mountain ranges. This only changed when the Realm had already established a firm grasp on large parts of creation.

    Founding of Castanea

As the population of the Valley rapidly rose, the need for a local supply of food grew by the day. Up till now the supplies from arriving caravans and local game hunting sufficed. But the hunger drove the people east. There they encountered lush hilltops and land ripe for farming. Eventually they were also able to overcome the neighboring place of power. And thus, Castanea was founded.

    Silent Renouncement
    Era beginning/end

For decades most people living in the Cinder District around Castanea were not bothered to much with their lower status in the Emberborn feudal system. The settlers and farmers operated largely independently, and were able to sell their produce to the highest bidder on the markets near The Reach. But as time went on and Valley population kept rising rapidly, Emberborn nobles came to fulfill the role of regional Sheriffs. As quotas were instated, it became clear that the farmers around Castanea were considered second rank citizens. On top of that the Emberborn nobility demanded cultural and political conformity from the farmers and settlers, with descent often being harshly stuck down. One of the most noteworthy events was the (arguably unjust) public execution a renowned artist called Koryaq. He was convicted for treason after painting a less than flattering mural painting of the local Emberborn dignitary. During the aftermath, his children and many like minded folks would leave the district in favour of a life in the mountains and would go to establish the Kingdom of The Mistrals.
