Malefis' Blessing Upon the Kreos

A few years after the Primordial Embodiment of Grace & Blight, Malefis, awoke, the kreos were granted a blessing.

Long before Malefis had ever existed, the kreos had lost most of their souls; ever since most could remember, they had been born only with a small sliver that escaped soon after birth, and would be caught within a crystal pendant. Without a full soul, kreos would never reincarnate.

Malefis was unable to completely heal their shattered souls, however, they were able to place a blessing upon the myentic people. The Kreos would reincarnate, though not in the way one might think.

Each Kreos would gain an extra seven lives, each with a natural lifespan of about 8,000 years. Once a kreos died, their body would fall into a coma-like state as it healed and became young and new again. The kreos lifespan was therefore elongated by extreme proportions; the catch? Once a kreos had lived their eighth life, their cycle would end and they would cease to exist; their energy spent.

One thing Malefis never expected was the physical changes that came with their blessing. Before, kreos looked similar to humans. Soon after a kreos was blessed, however, they sprouted antennae, scaley moth-like wings, and sometimes even fluffy collars and fur. Some changed colors as well, and each gained a rather strong appreciation for sparkly things.

Celebration

This blessing ushered in a new era for the kreos; one where Malefis was honored for their gift. The kreos chose the day of Malefis' awakening to celebrate and named it Akni, their word for both reincarnation and electricity.

During these celebrations, the kreos will often trade, collect, and/or sell their scales. The scales from their wings will often shed naturally, and as such, they are seen as a sign of good luck and a long life.

The Reincarnation Process

As described, kreos fall into a coma-like state during their reincarnation. This state can last up to a hundred alatheian years, depending on the cause of death.

During this time, the kreos is kept on the floating islands of Myenetal. There are about ten islands total, with three typically in use due to how recent the blessing is. Each island has a unique building that protects reincarnating kreos from harm.

These buildings are also similar to memorials and cemeteries in that visitors may honor the reincarnating kreos with gifts or company. Each kreos is kept within an upright glass 'coffin' that is decorated in all types of flowers, crystals, or anything else that may bring the kreos comfort. Each kreos holds a staff that keeps both them and the glass upright and protected.

These 'coffins' also have engraved numbers on the edges to indicate the number of lives the kreos has left; the more engravings, the older the kreos. Kreos with more engravings are often highly respected, both in life and in death. Coffins are often also decorated with runes to protect from vandalism or any other attempts at destruction.

Although visitors are allowed within the buildings, only those who have relationships with the kreos are allowed close to the coffins. Dimensional gates are installed behind each coffin and pedestal to allow easy access to the kreos' loved ones.
