Where the broken come to die

The Cold World

No other place is so full of life, yet so hollow and empty. The streets of Drear are empty during the short and dark day, but fill during the inky night with husks that wander aimlessly. Though it is considered the least dangerous of the Shadowlands, those who visit Wander never linger long. The crushing weight of despair that pervades this realm is akin to the Veil, but worse in some ways. Wander is a place for the empty and the broken.

The Silent Palace

Rising above the city of Drear is the fabled Silent Palace, home to the fair Lullaby. The broken queen's gentle song echo's through the palace, but makes no sound. This magical phenomenon is unsettling to most who enter and has turned away many who would brave its empty corridors. The palace itself is created predominantly of black marble with a floor polished white as snow. It is eerily clean despite eons of neglect. While the main floors are mostly unremarkable, the palace features four towers and a cathedral at the summit. In the cathedral, Banshees sing a song of lament for their fallen queen, while the four towers contain one bedchamber each. The south and east towers are abandoned, but the north tower contains a shrine and a grave to the spirit of the North Wind.

The Lady and her Captain

Legend holds that Lullaby herself rests within the west tower, waiting for a hero to free her from her misery. Over the years, many have tried and failed to reach the gentle queen of the wind. The same legend tells of a warrior with no equal, a Forlorn Captain who stands as an eternal vigil over his queen, protecting her from self styled heroes and grave-robbers alike. Only one person has ever faced the captain and survived, but she foolishly made a second attempt to save him from his duty and fell like the countless others.

Geography

Wander is a city surrounded on three sides by a labyrinthine forest that redirects all who enter back to the city. The final side ends in a massive cliff that overlooks an endless sea. The Silent Palace rests on the edge of the cliff and the city of Drear rolls out down the hill beneath it.

Fauna & Flora

Wander is inhabited only by Banshees and Husks, with the occasional Wraith or other lost creature that wanders in.

The Veilwalker's name comes from his visits to Wander. He often comes to ward off adventurers from braving the west tower and challenging the Captain who was once his close friend.
