Jewel War
The Jewel War, sometimes also known as the Dark Days, was the greatest war seen in Occulas, fought between the Royal Kingdom of Asmodius, the Order of Injustira and the Followers of Merlin. Near the penultimate events of this war the The Circle joined the war too.
The war was the result of several Jewels being discovered and falling into the hands of each of these factions, and culminated in one of the most destructive and iconic wars in history.
Prelude
Before the events of the Dark Days there was but a single Jewel discovered following the shattering of the Omnijewel. The Black Jewel was in the possession of the Dark Wanderer, more commonly known as the Dark Sorcerer. After travelling to Bornheiniculate he tempted Declasia with a cure for her people's vampirism, but in exchange required their time. By putting the city and the Conclave of Declasia into a stasis, the Prince began his plan to convert Bornheiniculate into his font of power to amass an army of revenge against Dracula. Shortly after this the Sapphire Jewel was discovered by Merlin, and unknown to anyone else the The Circle had already discovered the Emerald Jewel for themselves long ago and had been using it to heal the World Nexus in secret.
Dark Days
In 1551, a year after Bornheiniculate went silent, the world of Magic Earth was plunged into darkness by the Dark Sorcerer. When it was discovered that Bornheiniculate was cast in a void-like shadow, the powers of Occulas urged the Royal Kingdom to investigate the conclave. As months passed the king of Asmodius began instructing his armies to search for another Jewel, jealous of the power which Alder controlled with their discovery of the Sapphire Jewel. These events led to the other countries calling him the 'Mad King,' as his search became more and more aggressive. For 4 years the world suffered darkness, and magic alone was struggling to preserve life. Populations concentrated into the capital of Asmodius and a high demand of food had become unsustainable. With hope out of his reach the Mad King sent his forces north to Sheol where they were met with the Dark Wanderer - who gifted them the Crimson Jewel in exchange for appeasing and keeping the king quiet. Once the army returned with their gift, the king publicly announced how he had discovered the Crimson Jewel deep in the mountains and found nothing but a black abyss where Bornheiniculate once stood. With his Jewel he returned a fiery light to the sky, reviving the land around Asmodius and threatening anyone that dared to defy his kingdom with his newfound power.
Jewel War Begins
For a time there was an uneasy peace in Asmodius. But the Fist of Asmodius grew more and more doubtful of their king, to whom they had sworn to protect. When they realised the King no longer cared for the greater good of the people they conspired a coup d'état against the him. Eventually the Fist met in secret with the Order of Injustira in Terimus, also joined by Merlin's followers from Alderwell. Together they formed a secret alliance to overthrow the king and claim the Crimson Jewel. Tensions climbed in Asmodius after the king discovered that The Circle had a Jewel in their possession too, forcing the Fist to hasten their plans. In 1556 the Jewel War begins with the Fist attempting to overthrow the king from within his own walls before he could prepare to attack the other realms. Support from both Terimus and Alder was defeated outside the city walls and the Mad King defied the rebellion within. Many survivors of the coup fled the kingdom to Terimus, becoming refugees of a civil war.
For 2 long years the war ruins Occulas, all while the Circle watched and kept the Emerald Jewel hidden, no matter how often the Order would beg them to join the alliance against the mad king. Knowing of the destructive power of the Crimson Jewel they decided to stay out of the war of the east, fearing the worst for their home and the World Nexus they had spent so, so long healing.
Death of the Mad King
Hope is found at last when the Mad King is killed in 1558, following the Circle finally joining the rebellion against the King after he sent an army to their realm. The Circle used their own powers to help the fight once they knew victory was certain, refraining from ever using the Emerald Jewel in the war. The fires above Asmodius were extinguished and all of the king's loyalists were removed from the city. The coup d'état was finally completed and the Fist took official control of the Royal Kingdom. With the king's death it was revealed how he was a puppet for the Dark Wanderer ever since he received the Crimson Jewel as a gift. Now attention turned towards Sheol and the Dark Sorcerer.
Armies gathered outside the void that surrounded Bornheiniculate, but when the barrier fell unspeakable horrors of the Underworld were unleashed. The war against the Dark Sorcerer lasted a decade.
End of the War
When Merlin sacrificed himself he used the Sapphire Jewel to nullify the power of its brothers, turning the tides of war in Occulas' favour. Thus the Dark Sorcerer was finally defeated, ending the Jewel War, and ending the Dark Days once and for all, returning light to the sky for the first time in 17 years. With the power of the jewels now obsolete the spell keeping Declasia and her people in stasis was lifted - but they were greeted with the judgement of the Order. With their cure incomplete, and with no alibi to protect them, Declasia and her people were faced with being framed for enabling the Dark Sorcerer. Although the Circle urged the Order of Injustira to be merciful with their punishments, tension was once again rising. Declasia saw her only escape would be to take her people through a portal to the City of Crows, and use their power to create a wall of shadows around the Land of Crows, locking the kingdom away. This was all decided in a secret meeting between the leaders of the Order, the Circle, and Declasia. The Circle was able to negotiate peace, whilst the Order was able to rid Occulas of the vampirism curse. Similarly, Declasia and her people would remain safe until they could cure themselves.
