The young elf clutched her side, an arrow protruding, dyed a deep crimson with her vitae. She had managed to find shelter after the initial volley but the cackling of the Gnolls who had began to overrun her garrison filled the air and her heart with dread. Flame began to overtake portions of the wall and she barely managed to hear the snap of the sinews and bones over the growing growl and that incessant revelry. She dared peek above her bastion and saw a group of several putting Dietgard, her longtime companion, onto a sharpened stake amidst the flames. As the post pierced her friend she ducked behind her barrier once more, trying to hold both her screams and the contents of her stomach in vain. Retching gasps between viscous sloshing on the stones had drawn the attention of one of the Gnolls.
The brute, freshly covered in the blood of her comrade began slowly stomping her direction, smelling the fear and despair in the smoke-filled air. Kawahara let out a feeble prayer, not only to the gods of her ancestors but to anyone, anything who would listen. She’d give all the rest of her days to anything that would let her live them. Her head became hazy with fear as the Gnoll, growling low grabbed a spear previously discarded and made motions to run her through. The heavy paces followed one after another. Each pounding step against the earth making her head lighter and lighter. Suddenly a great resounding thud as the finale. The pacing had stopped.
She opened her eyes slowly, realizing her vision had become hazy not due to her injuries, but a strange substance now intermingling with the smoke. She looked around and several other Gnolls fell, some even into the flames they had caused, seemingly in deepest slumber.
She heard a voice call out from across the smoke, "Move in quick, the gas may only give us a few minutes. Augustin, you’re in charge of the kill crews. I’ll lead rescue." Not but a scant few seconds later, her consciousness finally failing due to the relief of reinforcements she felt a slight frame begin to move her, the last thing registering in her memory was the slicked black hair of her savior and the title his men addressed him by: Sergeant Ettlinger.

Personal history
Kawahara has been the favored child and heir apparent of the Akechi Household since her birth. As such, she experienced the finest training that her father could afford, and as she wasn't overly fond of books this lead to her focusing her skills in martial aspects. This path (and some backroom dealings by her father) led to her taking a position with the Royal Guard, which, due to her House's loyalty to Yoruko during the coup, eventually lead into a senior position. After this she was lead to believe that Lambert was dead and that Ognic had taken his place. Dismayed by losing the one she loved, she made a deal with Ognic for power enough to ensure she wouldn't feel such pain again.
During the Dragon Attack, Kawahara was defeated in combat and her sister surrendered to Sora, Mika, and Maria in exchange for their lives. The previous deal Kawahara had made with Ognic was invalidated when it was divulged that Lambert was alive, causing her to enter a coma for some time. Upon waking after the Attack, Kawahara was grateful for her rescue but asked Queen Sorahime for an absence of at least 6 months to wander the world and find her center once again.
