Daalen
Daalen are a humanoid plant-based life form. Of all sentient plant-based life, the Daalens appear the most human like. Their skin even feels fairly close to a humans skin, though slightly smoother.
Daalen's are typically pascifists as they have a deep spiritual connection to any living thing. More information is in the Culture and Cultural Heritage section below.
Much of the lowlands of the planet are rich in large crystals. Some are hundreds of feet across. This is often used to construct central buildings in towns and cities. The central buildings are often carved from these crystals. They carve the crystals to be larger buildings. It allows a lot of light into the building.
Most of their buildings have glass roofs, and are rarely more than a few floors tall. They have large windows in their buildings as well.
Their technology is very advanced compared to other Florans. They had interplanetary space travel, but no faster than light travel, before they were discovered. They use very ecologically friendly in their manufacturing process, using solar and wind energy for all their energy needs.
Racial Abilities
- Dependency (-2): Daalens need at least one hour per day in suitable light. They prefer natural light sources like stars, though artificial light can work as well. Otherwise, they suffer 1 level of fatigue per day. Fatigue is recovered at the rate of 1 level per hour of sunlight.
- Environmental Weakness, Heat/Fire (–1): Florans suffer +4 damage from heat or fire attacks, and a –4 penalty to resist any other effects.
- Regeneration (+2): Daalens that are not suffering from exhaustion from a lack of sunlight can make natural healing rolls once per day instead of once per week.
- Toughness (+1): Daalens skin is tougher, and many, though not all, body functions are spread out more, instead of in dedicated organs. This increases the base Toughness by +1.
- Hardy (+2): A second Shaken result in combat does not cause a Wound.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Daalens are bipedal and humanoid shape. Similar to humans, they have two eyes, a nose and mouth.
Biological Traits
Like all Floran species, daalens breathe carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen. They can not die if oxygen deprived, but a lack of carbon dioxide has the same effect.
Many toxins and poisons may not affect daalens like it does mammalian species like humans due to the different biology. This doesn't mean they are immune to all toxins and poisons, just that different ones may be needed.
Genetics and Reproduction
Daalens are bi-gendered. They reproduce through a process called "budding". The female and male both will sprout buds and males pollen will pollinate the female buds. The females buds will stay on her skin for 8 days. Then they will turn to seed. These seeds are then treated like most plant seeds, and given soil and water. Then sunlight when they begin to spout.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Sunlight and water is the primary nutrition needed by Daalens. They also need nutrients often received through pill form. The pills are a combination of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, proteins, and other nutrients they need. The second best option is for them to consume soil, or rest in fertilized soil for a couple of hours during the day. Though, if very desperate, they can get these nutrients by eating meat. This is less effective and should only be a stop-gap for a few days.
Biological Cycle
Starting as a seed, the young grow out of soil similar to any plant. Around 6-8 weeks after the seed is planted, it is removed from the soil and is a small humanoid. They are generally cared for similar to any infant. They become adults around their 16th year, and usually live for up to 300 years.
Additional Information
Facial characteristics
They have a "normal" humanoid face, though their nose tends to be smaller than other humanoids, it's not a significant difference. Their eyes tend to have bright blue, yellow, or red colours.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Similar to humans in all senses, except they have a heightened sense of smell. They also have slightly worse vision in low light. This is not a significant hindrance, however, it is noticeable if someone else is describing something in low light, including some shading in the colours, the Daalen will not see the shading, but would see the object.

Culture and Cultural Heritage
Daalens are very spiritual. They do not have a "god" though they do refer to nature and creation as The Goddess. They are aware of, and worship, the ways everything is connected. Rain is a blessing, the sunlight provides life, carrion eaters provide nutrients for the soil, and so on. Each living thing, and each thing that contributes to life is often revered.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Daalens are suspicious of people that don't eat meat. They prefer the company of people that take a fully carnivorous diet.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Their skin colour tends to be blues and greens. Though a very small percentage, approximately one in 1,000,000 are born with red, or orange skin. This is a genetic mutation that is often celebrated. Their skin often has paler, or even shiny, spots on their skin, especially on the face and upper torso. These are larger, but similar to human freckles. The dots can be simply a paler shade of the skin tone, or sometimes silver, or rarely gold.
