The Finger

Serving as one of the largest port-cities in the realm, The Finger is the home of House Hamheart and the Grand Navy. Much like farmers who tend to their crops, the Hamhearts have grown the rocky steeps of the coast into a bastion of trade and steel.   The vast coastal city as it is known in this day of the gods, was built 50 years before the Bond of Blood, which makes it almost three centuries old. Wishbone - the ancestral seat of the Hamhearts, however, is as old as the Hamheart name. It was formerly the chambers of House Rower and acted as their seat for many centuries.   The earliest written sources of Lazanth settling dates back to the Age of the Torch, when the surrounding lands were given to the Rowers.   The Finger is a hub for merchants from lands afar, all year round, for no eastern storm is too harsh for the promise of gold and silver. A stroll through the narrow streets unveils the racket of hammers upon anvils, the chatter of shopkeepers looking to bargain and the marching of guards carrying the Peak-and-Moon sigil.

Demographics

Most of the density in the city comes from weekly merchants, craftsmen and peasants. Of the roughly 8000 inhabitants, over 6000 are notably of Lazanth decent, with as few Westerners as 500. The rest are travelers from the realm, as well as from distant lands across the Salt Sea.

Government

The Hamherats see over The Peaks with Leo Hamheart I as current Lord of The Peaks.   The inhabitants of The Finger pay taxes to the Lord which are collected by an honored coinbearer. Coinbearers are usually family members of the Lord and are responsible for the management of the gold in The Peaks. Being a coinbearer is known to be a highly prestigious duty, as the coast and mines of the eastern lands provide an abundance of gold to spend - or waste.   The Hamhearts rule with a firm and just hand, by the laws and grace of the Crown and with the gods as witness.

Defences

Numerous guard towers watch over both sea and land. An attack on the city from either direction is sure to be seen with plenty of time to man an active defence. Wishbone rests atop a cliff of significant height with a towered gate at the base, guarding the bridge to the rest of the city.

Infrastructure

Notable buildings in The Finger include castle Wishbone, the Saltwater Inn and the harbor. The city's streets consist of paved blocks with an almost polished surface from the thousands of boots that have walked over them every day and night for centuries.
