House Hamheart
"The Moon that shines"
Few things are certain in the realm of the Crown. However, as ink dries and as tides rise once more, so does House Hamheart rule the eastern lands of the Kingdom - The Peaks.
Known for our vigilance and wisdom, the Hamhearts have served the King loyally as true friends for more than two centuries. While other families wear gods-words for sigils and bears as banners, we bear the Peak and Moon as our crest.
The stalwart weight our name carries is a virtue set in stone. The Hamhearts come from a noble line, a family of advisors and knights. Such were my ancestors Nyle and Nova, the twin knights, and the greatest warriors in the Peaks. Nova Hamheart even went on to become Lord Rower's personal advisor and coinbearer.
Though our name was not preceded by the title Lord of the Peaks, our presence was just as important in the courts of House Rower, as it was amid the ranks of the army. When the great saltfever plague ran amok, it was precisely our presence in the courts that held the balance of the Peaks. Still, our Lords, even as few as they were, did not recognize our role. To them, Nova Hamheart was just another servant in the court, running the numbers, scribbling away in their chambers. To have us in their quarters was just another highborn courtesy and a show of "good manners".
Two generations pass and the descendants of the twin knights are still the oil that keeps the northern gears turning. House Rower still rule as Lords of the Peaks, but make no mistake - it is the Hamhearts who keep the ship afloat. And there was indeed a great many things to keep from sinking. The coronation of King Edward I Wardmane, following the Bond of Blood, brought westerners to the Peaks, and with them - Ereenese gold.
The Finger bloomed into the city we know today and the harbor neath Wishbone, as if to honor its overseers name, grew into a true pot of gold. All this new wealth fed the Rowers' greed as they failed to listen to their old advisors. Mists shrouded their judgement just in time for the War of the Dawn. During the campaign, it was the Hamheart banner again which lead the realms' northern armies against the Eastern filth. It was Nova II Hamheart, the sibling knight, who lead the siege on Grangeport to free the seat of House Lambfyre, effectively purging the Peaks from foreign armies.
Ever since the end of the War of the Dawn, the realm's historians and merchants have rightly observed and noted our key position in the affairs of the Peaks, and the Kingdom. From our humble days as knightly bannermen to a former great House, a single gold coin has not been wasted while in the hands of a Hamheart. In the epilogue of the war came a final act of godly misfortune - or justice. The saltfever plague returned to the Finger and saw to our Lord's end. The Rower name was no more. As a result of our loyalty to the Crown, my forefather Nyle II Hamheart, was given the title Lord of The Peaks. As you know, a trader's endeavors are not ventures at the mercy of luck, nor is battle's outcome a flip of a coin.
A highborn's lucky streak ends, a drunk's flask runs dry, and the Moon always rises.
