The Thorned Crown
Ever since the end of the War of Six Rakes, the central Lazanth bloodlands have been united by the grace, holiness and authority of the Thorned Crown. Seven centuries later, the Crown still rules. The dominion engulfed the Vinlands and Dryfeld at first, then expanded by conquest to the Wright and the Peaks. The Holtlands and Enkh were introduced to the kingdom after the Bond of Blood.
The first ruler in the Vinlands to bear a thorned crown was George the Sower, a farmer-lord who lead the first Lazanths into the realm and allegedly planted the holy seed that sprouted Farebrick Sow.
The coronation of King Salmont Sander marks the founding of the first kingdom, a vital event in Lazanth history.
The title of King or Queen is lost only by the death of a monarch. An heir acquires the Crown by right of blood, prioritizing eldest trueborn descendants. In the event of no apparent heir, the crown traces its path up the family tree until it finds the next rightful successor.
Rulers of old have sometimes named their temporary heirs before death. These chosen successors, called Goldstems, rule until the rightful heir presses claim or becomes of age - upon which they are relieved of their duty as regent.
It is by these holy principles that all future Kings and Queens are determined.

Coronation
Royal coronations have been traditionally held in the Halls of Valor, inside Farecastle. The Thorned Crown is ceremoniously laid upon the head of the next monarch by The Three Visages. An oath of duty is then recited. A King swears to the Bard and Warden, vowing to prove himself to the Gardener by devoted and merciful rule. What boys and men lack in a King's holy understanding of fertility, life and death - they learn through the Gardener's love. A Queen swears to the Bard and Gardenrer, taking an oath to prove herself to the Warden by stark and careful rule. What girls and women lack in a Queen's holy understanding of struggle and decisiveness - they learn through the Warden's guidance. After the ceremony is completed and the Thorned Crown is worn once more, feasts of health are held throughout the Vinlands.Famous rulers throughout history
