Strade's Gallows
Strade's Gallows is the largest and only settlement in the swamp of Candle Marsh. The once standing murky castle, Fort Strade, is the foundation upon which this town is built. Home to the Casters of Strade's Gallows and predominantly northern folk, this diligent worker-town is an unlikely participant in the general My'Oan sea trade. It is known to be a deeply secluded prospector's town, primarily dealing with the cultivation, smelting, and exportation of a rare fish - the goldfin brim. Folk tales speak of its magical qualities, but no magic is responsible for the abundance of coastal coin flowing through Strade's Gallows.
The banks of the river Damp host the docks of the two districts, Genteel and Urban. The only road in is the Old Splinter Road, piercing the northern gate. Though a couple of dirt roads stand, leaving the town through barred stone gates to the south and east, they are seldom used for travel. Most people who regularly venture into Candle Marsh are the town's lumberjacks and big-game hunters. The resources necessary for the notable self-sustained nature of Strade's Gallows are largely centered around its immediate region. The river Damp, with her bountiful nurseries of goldfin brim, acts as a central piece in the inner-workings of the town. Most of the labor is organized around the aforementioned shore fish, leaving few reasons to delve into the swamp.
Its sunken foundation, Fort Strade, remains hidden from view, save for its highest tower which is also the home of a prominent family - House Cinderbloom. The last remnants of the centuries old castle can be observed from the surface as parts of the town's sewers. By all means, it is buried beyond exploration. The only way in is through the deep basement of the Cinderbloom Tower.
Another interesting prospect, both in the history of Strade's Gallows and its lively ruckus, is the old circus "The Smiling Jester". Once run by the charming ringleader Baxter, this wonderous establishment is no more - claimed by sprouting shrubbery and boarded up beyond recognition. Coincidently, the Jester is also a part of Strade's Gallows' rich and dark history, having previously hosted a vile witch from the depths of Candle Marsh, Tashtiba. This hermit from the deep would perform tricks and wonders at the carnival, entertaining the visitors with her disturbing menagerie of exotic creatures and the weird. She would eventually be lynched by the locals following a dispute with a member of the Casters. A statue to the fallen stands in the Urban District.
