King Eadvard Hamelin Dillestone
King Eadvard, Third of His Name, Head of House Dillestone and ruler of Banteave, didn't think it would end this way.
His only son and heir, Erick Dillestone, died at sea returning from a trade mission to Dunefalle. His Queen has long since passed from this world, and to drown his grief he's turned to drink, revelry and excess, the result of which is the birth of
Mair Dillestone , borne of a passing union between him and her mother
Annabeth Risevar . Technically a bastard, Mair represents a semi-legitimate successor to the throne, but the King has been so beset with grief and drink that he has yet to attend to crucial matters of state, including legitimizing Mair or anointing a successor. All he sees around him are toadies and sycophants cozying up to him since the death of his son to try and secure his favour and to push their case for the crown.
He'll straighten it all out. He will.
After the Midyear Fete. After another dance. After another drink.
Physical Description
Ailing and frail. Excessive drinking is accelerating his decline.
Mental characteristics
Personality Characteristics
Prior to the death of his son, Eadvard III was focused on preparing Erick for his succession; smoothing out alliances, reforging old bonds. Now, swirling in a cloud of grief, Eadvard seeks only to dilute the pain. Ruling seems almost an afterthought.
To cope with the loss of his only son, Eadvard has taken to drinking heavily almost every night.
Social
Despite the relative stability, trouble still flared throughout Banteave. In the Heartland, a peasant uprising swelled to unexpected strength, forcing Eadvard to call in his allies in
House Oake to put the rebellion down. This cost House Oake dearly, as their daughter
Lowenna Benett Oake , a brilliant tactician and warrior, met her demise at the end of a peasant's pitchfork.
Eadvard is aware that his passing encounter with
Annabeth Risevar has resulted in the birth of a daughter
Mair Dillestone . While he has yet to meet them personally, he has made arrangement with his steward to ensure the bastard babe wants for nothing.

Towards Emelyn Tahn Echen
History
Emelyn and Eadvard III share a peculiar camaraderie despite their many, many differences. After the death of his son Erick Eadvard Dillestone , Eadvard III has called Emelyn to his court several times, where they spend days in quiet seclusion in the Gardens of Valor. Some say he has asked Emelyn to commune with the dead and speak to his son, a practice Emelyn fervently denies is within their power.
