Duchy of Whitecliff Organization in The Kingdom of Banteave | World Anvil

Duchy of Whitecliff

Contains the Baronies of Rhythavn, Urre, Troth and Curvel, with the ducal seat located at Rhythavn Castle .   The Barony of Rhythavn sits at the end of Rhyver Bay, with the seat of power for House Ildrafn built around the ruins of an ancient cyclopean lighthouse. They boast a prominent navy and fishery, and the farmlands in the surrounding hills bring in a great deal of tubers, root vegetables and hardy herbs. The winds from the bay are perpetually chilling, but at the height of summer the Rhyverfolk bask in clear skies and the blooming fields of highland flowers. The sages of Rhythavn are also renowned historians, holding vast rooms filled with treatise and records of past ages.   South of Rhythavn lies the Barony of Urre, known far and wide as the preferred destination of Banteavan nobles seeking the best hunting grounds in the kingdom. With great tracts of forest secured for the Royal Reserve, the comfortable lodges of Castle Urre have housed almost every royal family during their autumn and winter hunts since their founding. The foragers and gamekeepers of Urre know each forest path from memory, and know exactly what sections of forests to avoid, lest they disturb the older creatures that dwell within their shadowed depths. Even within the Royal Reserves, at least a third of the woods are marked to denote the hunting grounds of beasts older than the kingdom itself. The Warden of Urre, Sabine Dillestone, is a trapper and beast-hunter of great repute, and prefers the quiet forest paths and silent dance between predator and prey over the gilded machinations of the royal courts to the south.   East of Urre sits the Barony of Curvel , home to windswept shores, coastal villages of fishnet weavers and pearl-divers, whalers and coastwardens. In the high hills overlooking Curvel, the stone ruins of ancient Antari kings still sit in silent vigil, the spirits of which would be no doubt perturbed by the new ruler of these lands. The Baron of Curvel, Zura Luneste, is a foreign-born reaver and pirate-lord from distant Dunefalle, installed here after House Luneste  purchased the title from the disgraced House Sandoreale. Now, the construction of shrines to the new gods from distant shores have begun, and the people of Curvel stand divided between the gods of their forefathers and the new gods of their lord.   North of Curvel stands the Barony of Troth, remote and austere atop the high sea bluffs overlooking Rhyver Bay. The great salt cliffs here provide substantial wealth to their owners, but the true value here lies not in the earth but the hallowed halls of House Oake’s ancient academy. Here, the finest generals in all of Banteave come to receive their training, and Calistan knights make regular pilgrimages here to learn, spar and bond with one another. Overseeing this venerable establishment is Baron Bevan Oake, who rules fairly and quietly alongside his hot-blooded husband, the esteemed knight-commander Ser Lio Wenslow Oake.
