Barony of Ashendarrow
A Barony in the Backbone of Banteave, warding the passes that lead to Ostamber.
Territories
The majority of the territory around Ashendarrow are craggy mountains, rugged hills and pine-laden valleys. The Darrowfolk navigate the treacherous passes and steep hills with ease, but newcomers not prepared for the difficult hikes may find themselves falling behind their traveling companions.
Military
The villages in Ashendarrow maintain small standing militias of spearmen and archers. Cavalry is rarely used, as the terrain is too treacherous for them to be effective. The Baron of Ashendarrow can call up levies as needed, and maintains a standing force of their own to garrison the mountain passes warding Ostamber, with companies of crossbowmen and skirmishers to engage Ostamber raiders should they become hostile.
Agriculture & Industry
Mining, logging and herding make up the bulk of industry in Ashendarrow. There is also good markets for trade with Ostamber, and many folk here make their living working for the caravans; raising oxen, repairing wagon wheels, maintaining inns and roadhouses.
Trade & Transport
Rocky mountain passes are the lifeblood of Ashendarrow; they bring staple crops and trade goods in, and allow the flow of ore and lumber out towards markets in Ninetaver and beyond. Road wardens patrol the more dangerous territories where bandits, brigands and Ostamber raiders are common.
