Interstellar League
The Interstellar League is a confederacy of worlds that controls most of one sector. The League itself has several clear mandates:
- Keep the trade routes open and pirate free.
- Provide a stable economy for commerce.
- Defend member governments from outside forces.
Each member world sends 1 representative to legislature on the capital world of Exchange. The Interstellar League is known for being economically motivated.
History
When the Terran Republic fleet disappeared during the Auch incursion, the Skraw took the opportunity to purge the humans from the galaxy and began attacking the trailing edge of the Terran Republic. This caused the collapse of the Terran Republic, especially after the Skraw took and purged the Sol system and Terra. Merchant houses and financial interests in the financial hub of Exchange began organizing and arming their fleets for self-protection. In response to the rise of the Urbian Empire, they formalized their arrangement into the Interstellar League.
Military
System Governments are responsible for their own defense on a System/Planetary level. Between systems, the Interstellar League Navy guarantees security of the interstellar trade routes and security of the Express Boat network within League jurisdiction. Actual League colonies may have a League garrison of some sort, but if those colonies are part of a member system government or wholly owned by a corporation, then the member government or the corporation is responsible for their system level defense. In times of war, the League will coordinate local system defense, mobilize subsidized ships, and issue Letters of Marque.
