Thesprotines

Initially mindless predators within Demeter's sacred grove, the Thesprotines are a race of humanoid praying mantis with pre-Perxis-Sadem origins. Captured and tamed by the Mycestian Stable Lords, they used these predators to cull the parasites and unwanted guests around the goddess' sacred Dodonan oak tree. 

However, their role in The Weeping Grove Massacre made them infamous throughout the sector as efficient and emotionless killers with a face that'll never give away their intentions until your neck is between its mandibles. 

Fully inoculated as a Mixolastian Sub-Species by the Ionites, the Thesprotines gained sentience and more humanoid adaptations. Appearing more as priestly insectoids rather than their giant bugs.

Their first leader: Thesprotis swore an oath for his people to become Tagus-Prostatis (magistrate protectors) of The Weeping Grove as penance for their barbaric past. Acting as guardians of the Epressian Commonwealth's capital at the base of the withering tree until the day a worthy leader will unite the Epressians into one singular cluster.

Until then, the Thesprotines have a lot of work to bring order to the Roots.

Apart from funding refertilization project for the dying oak, the Thesprotine Magistrate takes on the religious duties once performed by the priests of Demeter. Giving prophecies from the Cosmic Aurora (mostly phony ones) and tours of the grove to fund the project.

Because of their success as magistrates and administrators, the Thesprotines have established themselves as reformed barbarians and model Mixolastians. Even gaining enough prestige and reserve capital to fund Baethlaic Embryo seeding projects in what would become the Thessalis Anvil.

These royal families would eventually turn this cluster into the industrial powerhouse it is today.

While the Thesprotines are successful administrators with a clean record. The Dodonan Roots continue to be a dangerous cluster with raiders, monstrous beasts, hidden colonies of Exalted Orphans, and countless visitors disappearing inside the cluttered web of DST Accelerator Lanes.

A fact the Lipsikki: humanoid butterflies and former Pantheonic caretakers of the grove lay at the feet of the Tagus-Prostatis. Claiming the Thesprotines are still the emotionless killers they once were, using their image as reformed barbarians to lure more victims to steal their Ichor.

While little evidence can be found to support these claims against the magistrates. These crafty insectoids have more going on than simple penance. 

For the sake of the sector, one can only hope the Thesprotines have changed. Before the Patrokonoi finds their necks between the mandibles of the Thesprotine Protectorate.
