Wood Elves
Basic Information
Anatomy
Build
Elves are typically taller and more slender than humans, often ranging from 5 to 7 feet in height. Their bodies are lithe and graceful, with long limbs and a delicate frame.
Ears
One of the most distinctive features, elves have long, pointed ears that can be several inches in length, tapering to a fine point. This trait enhances their sense of hearing and is often associated with their connection to nature.
Agility
Wood Elves are renowned for their exceptional agility, a trait that sets them apart even from other elven races. Their lithe, athletic builds are perfectly suited for swift, graceful movements, whether navigating the treetops of their forest homes or darting through the dense underbrush of the jungle. Years of living in environments that demand constant physical dexterity have honed their reflexes to an extraordinary degree. Whether it's evading a predator, climbing effortlessly, or moving silently through the forest, Wood Elves excel in using their agility to blend into their surroundings and remain unseen.
Abilities
Advantage Against Being Charmed
Elves possess an innate resilience against enchantments that seek to charm or manipulate their minds.
Magic Can’t Put Them to Sleep
Elves are immune to magical sleep effects. Their connection to the mystical energies of their world creates a protective barrier that prevents them from falling asleep through magical means, allowing them to remain vigilant while others may succumb to such spells.
Meditation in Place of Sleep
Instead of requiring traditional sleep, elves enter a state of deep meditation for four hours, remaining semi-conscious while still attuned to their surroundings. During this time, they may appear tranquil, yet their senses remain keenly aware.
While meditating, elves engage in dream-like mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. They may visualize complex problems, reflect on past experiences, or mentally rehearse spells and skills. This process not only rejuvenates them but also sharpens their cognitive abilities and magical talents.
After four hours of meditation, elves gain the restorative benefits equivalent to a full night’s sleep for a human. They emerge from this state feeling refreshed and energized, able to engage in their pursuits with renewed vigor.
Sharpshooters
Wood Elves have an unparalleled proficiency with ranged weapons, honed through years of living in the dense forests and jungles where precision is key. Whether using a bow, a slingshot, or a spear, their movements are fluid and instinctive, allowing them to strike with exceptional accuracy. Their keen senses, coupled with their agility, make them natural marksmen, able to hit distant targets with ease and precision. This connection to their environment enhances their ability to focus and react quickly, enabling them to strike even the smallest of targets from great distances.
Nature Knowledge
Wood Elves are unparalleled in their understanding of the forest and jungle, a skill passed down through countless generations. Their intimate connection to these environments makes them exceptional travelers and survivalists within these realms. When faced with tasks such as foraging, navigating, or tracking, they tap into this deep knowledge, allowing them to work more efficiently and intuitively than most. Their expertise is so profound that even in the most challenging of terrains, they can move with ease, unaffected by obstacles that would slow others down. While traveling for long periods in the forest or jungle, Wood Elves can guide their companions without fear of becoming lost - except by magical means - and remain ever-alert to danger, even when multitasking. Those who travel with a Wood Elf benefit from this heightened awareness and the elf's unmatched ability to find sustenance, as they can forage twice as much food as most. When alone, a Wood Elf can slip through the undergrowth unnoticed, moving at a normal pace but with the stealth of a shadow. In addition, their acute tracking skills allow them to not only follow the path of creatures but also discern their numbers, sizes, and how long ago they passed through, giving them a remarkable edge in both hunting and evading foes.
Additional Information
Facial characteristics
Elven faces are characterized by high cheekbones, pointed chins, and smooth, angular features. Their eyes are large and expressive and may have an otherworldly sparkle.
Wood Elves are a race deeply connected to nature, and their appearance reflects their harmonious bond with the natural world. Their skin is often textured like the bark of trees, providing them with a subtle camouflage in their forested or jungle environments. The Wood Elves of the Great Forest tend to have paler skin, resembling the smooth, pale bark of birch trees, which blends seamlessly with the lighter canopy of their homeland. In contrast, the Wood Elves of the Great Jungle possess darker skin, reminiscent of the rich, earthy hues of the jungle’s towering trees and shadowed undergrowth. While their skin tones may differ, both groups share a deep connection to the forests and jungles they call home.
Wood Elf hair, typically in shades of blonde or brown, can also feature more unusual hues, with brightly colored strands - vibrant reds, greens, or blues - not uncommon among them. These striking colors seem to reflect their mystical connection to the natural world, like vibrant flowers or the rich foliage of their environments.
Their eyes, too, mirror the colors of their surroundings, ranging from pale, almost white shades to vibrant greens or warm browns, with an otherworldly brightness that hints at their elven heritage.
