Stjerkaler

See-Tah-Gher-Khal-Erh

Qualifications

A Stjerkaler needs to have a set of skills capable of being displayed before the Four Dwarven Kings before appointment can be made.
  • A thorough understanding of Combat as a Battle Mage for the Clans.
  • An array of utility spells numbering no less than forty that benefit the Clans while on the move across the continent.
  • A rigorous understanding of the workings of nature, in any capacity.
  • Have served under the same Clan for no less than Twenty Years. (Though many are fiecely loyal to their King and Clans of Birth, this requirement stands for those talented enough to be recruited by other Clans. The Krijic is well known among Dwarven Culture for doing so)

Appointment

A Magus of the Clan may request to raise their position in the Clan during the Holiday Sky Sight when all Four Kings are present. By stepping on a flat stone brought from their ancient homeland on the Isle of Mhuzelt before the Circle of Kings, a Magus may invoke the Right of Competency. No king may refuse a Magus seeking to elevate themselves, the nature of the Dwarves constantly seeks to allow those of merit and ambition to raise themselves higher and higher.

Before the Kings they must be able display their abilities to their highest degree; whether it be summoning a storm, splitting the earth in two, melting the earth below their feet, or commanding a raging river to change directions. A Stjerkaler must then answer a proverbial gauntlet of questions from their Kings and fellow Dwarves to their satisfaction.

As most Magus are extraordinarily skilled in physical magics this trial is the one most find more daunting. They must be able to answer questions of politics, economics and history to a very high degree. Or offer an insight that the Kings had not thought of before or have forgotten. Any Clansmen my approach the Magus with a problem they are facing, and ask how to solve it. Often times this is a religious matter, or a personal issue involving members beyond the Dwarven race. Should the Magus be found to give satisfactory answers, they will be given a place holder title of Kaler.

The Kaler with be allowed to leave the Clans away from the convoys to seek an item to mark themselves as true masters of their craft. Some choose to forge or find unique weapons, some choose to hunt down rare tomes or scrolls, some choose to create an emblem for themselves. In recent times, a permanent version of Alchemical Henna is tattooed across their entire bodies, effectively acting as spellbook of sorts that is active at all times.

While others who are more religious in nature, choose to find sacred plants or holy sites and take a piece of nature from them. While this is much rarer, it is considered far more honorable as the Dwarf will take the time to repair these places to their former glories. Once the Kaler has returned to their King and Clan of current appointment, they will display their Symbol for the Clan to see.

Upon proving their Symbol as capable of handling their power in one final display of power, they will be given the title of Stjerkaler. Elevated in the Ranks outside of Mhzuchet, and given special privileges inside the city.

Notable Holders

One of the most notable Stjerkalers was known as Hjalti Evergrown. A Druidic Dwarf of unparalleled might and knowledge in the Clan Rhojic, while ancient during his time with Gjorn Fourth king of Dwarves and the Battle of The Black Fortress and the Battle of the Gate, Hjalti was a force only nature itself could understand.

His symbol is that of a Branch taken from the Ancient Forest far to the south of the City of Glaion. An ancient thing, that never seemed to have realized it was taken from its tree, constantly growing seeds to drop at the turn of each season. Always attempting to set roots down when the Magus plants it in the ground. Perpetually covered in moss and lichens that shift depending on the climate the staff is taken to. Hjalti's final wish was to plant his staff on an island to the North of Mhzuchet and allow it to cover the island in a new forest.

During his Right of Competency, he rended a new canyon in the grounds outside of the crater lake south of the City, was able to have a treaty signed with the State Of Huron to surrender Zelthuma to the Government of the Dwarves. During is display of his staff, the skies were said to weep with joy as he called a thunderstorm to the parched prairies of northern Galus.

Alchemical Henna sounds fascinating; I love the idea of having spells or something related to their casting tattooed on the body. Hjalti's ever-living branch sounds interesting too, almost like a botanical version of Draupnir :)

Sorry it's taken a while to get back to this! It's been a difficult time lately. I used a lot of ideas about norse mythology with the Dwarves in general, though that Draupnir concept I've used in several places lol I just really liked the idea of a tree that refused to die

May you find the truth as it billows through the branches...
