Dreams of Creation

The best argument against the Gods being perfect is the story of creation itself. When your supposed ideal beings do no better than any carpenter's apprentice...
— First Guardian of Qirok Ordin
A time before time, the most ancient of ages, was the sole domain of the Dreamers. Beings of immense power, simply called gods by those that now dwell in their shadow. While today they are known mostly for their quarrels, arguments and fights, there was a time when they all worked together as one...and dreamed the world into being.

Tranquil Darkness

In the beginning, there was a dream. One brought about by the beings now known as the Kanei, the Nine Gods. Where they came from is one of the eternal mysteries of existence, especially since each of the Kanei will tell a different story when confronted with the question. At first, these gods did not much more than sleep and dream. One age followed another, more years than a single being could count passing between them.   And while they dreamed, the world around them began to change. Before, there was only Darkness around the sleeping gods, but in time some spots began to brighten. They turned white at first, then colourful. After colour came form, then texture, then size. When, after ten times ten millennia, the Kanei did wake, they found an entirely new world under them.

Troubled Awakening

If the act of creation was a dream, the thing created was a nightmare. A wretched landscape, full of bizarre creatures and even weirder plantlife. It was a world where it rained liquid fire and snow grew on trees of solid stone. Each of the Kanei found a thousand details wrong with this thing they had made and turned to right it with vigour.   Of course what one god disliked another may have liked and what was supposed to be a grand restoration of sanity seemed at times closer to a squabble between little children. The Smith and The Twins fought for nearly five thousand years over wherever the world should be round or flat. Who won in the end and which form the world eventually took...is unknown as both will state themselves to be the ultimate victor.   Eventually, the world took its known shape and the gods could pause to marvel at their work. And found themselves strangely unsatisfied. A century of starring at the silent and empty earth then brought about the greatest, or worst according to some, idea of all time. The gods would fill the world with life crafted in their own image.
No one has managed to provide proof in one way or another. Knowing the Gods, I can see them ending up with a world that is both at the same time.

Ancient Life   The gods often like to boast that they cleansed the world of all chaotic life before forging it again in their own image. Casual celebration of the extinction of an entire well of life aside, this claim is also flat out wrong. Many creatures of the ancient world survived, hidden in the deepest niches of the world. From time to time, they are unearthed by the children of the gods. Encounters that rarely end well.   Few Primordials are friendly toward the newer races. They hate the beings that replaced them, hate the gods for so cruelly casting them aside. Even those that do not care for the children are a danger, for many are of such an unnatural form that a simple glance can bring about insanity and worse. The mere thought of them lurking within the confines of the earth is enough to make one dread even the smallest of digs.

Just wanted to take some time to say I really love this myth! I think its a fascinating way for a world to be created, and I really enjoy how the gods couldn't agree between themselves how the world should be (and how we don't know if its flat or round). Great article :D!
