The Trackless
The vast expanse of "unsettled" land constituting the Southern majority of Veraqez. Until 1001 A.S., the Trackless was inaccessible by land from the Northern provinces of the Unified Republic. That all changed when the Transveraqezian Rail Corperation (TRC) completed their first rail tunnel through the Seltoan Mountains, which bisect the continent of Veraqez from East to West. Now, with the endorsement of the Republic government, the Trackless has been opened to settlers, hunters, miners, loggers, fishermen, and anyone else daring enough to claim land and carve out a life on the frontier.
Constant threats loom from strange monsters, ancient magical ruins, and mysterious natives desperately trying to hold onto their way of life. Not since the War of a Thousand Tears have the Enlightened Races faced so many an eminent external threat, and never at such a turbulent time. The Unified Republic is young but it is hopefully, inspired to consolidate the entirety of Veraqez under their bright, starry banner. The peoples of the Trackless will be brought into the fold, the monsters slain, and the ruins looted for their precious treasures, all in the name of progress and expansion.
Geography
The scale of the Trackless is staggering at over three million (3,000,000) square miles, making up fully two thirds of the continent of Veraqez. A young landmass, most of the Trackless is covered in rugged mountains and plateaus, crisscrossed by swift rivers and streams formed by glacial runoff. Divided by so many natural boundaries, unique biomes and microclimates have formed across the Trackless, such as the monsoon wetlands of the Xolpak'Ne in the northern equatorial part of the region. While 'Publican and Alfani have maintained trading ports along the coast line, only with the opening of the Northern Passage have the Enlightened begun to penetrate the interior of the continent.
Natural Resources
Abundant in minerals and lumber, the Southern Territories are the bounty the Unified republic has been seeking for centuries. Unlike the North part of Veraqez, the Trackless is lush with various species of hard woods and conifers alike. The jungles along the central coasts and the virgin swamplands are plentiful with herbs and medicinal plants never before seen by alchemists.
Uncounted numbers of monstrous species roam the countryside from the wet forests to the barren deserts. Hunters of all varieties have flocked to the Southern Territories in search of the ultimate trophy. Ivory and horn from dozens of breed of creature have begun flooding Northern markets for use in jewelry, sculptures, musical instruments, and homeopathic remedies. Skins of scale, fur, and stranger texture have become all the rage in fashion across the world; all of them originating from the Southern Expanse.
The newest discovery is large deposits of rare metals and fabulous gems. In places the riverbeds are said to be lines with precious stones and flecks of gold as large as one's thumbnail and just as thick. Thanks to the invention of dynamite and steam cranes, at least a dozen large mining operations have formed in just the short time since access to the Interior was gained.
