Alfan

Country located Southeast of Veraqez on the island of the same name. Populated mostly by the halfling and human peoples who also escaped the destruction of A'nensire, Alfan is a loose collection of city-states.

Structure

Alfan is a collection of city-states ruled by patrilinear princes/princesses and their cabinets who are elected by popular vote. The island is organized into a loose confederacy, with the princes voting on a council on matters involving trade and governance of Alfani holdings outside of the island, such as the cities established along the Eastern Coast of the Trackless prior to its sale to the Republic.

Culture

Known for their strong trade and craftsmen guild, the Alfani are an extremely industrious and innovative people. This attitude of inventiveness and opportunities for economic mobility has engendered a fierce sense of independence and self advancement in the Alfani people. Gregariousness and social etiquette are values prized by the Alfani to help with social advancement and to smooth the often tepid interactions between strong egos within business and political dealing. Alfani are known for their tempers, however, and when offence is taken duels are the most common means to resolve personal breaches of etiquette and social faux pas. In these duels, dueling pistol and sword are both employed and matches are to first blood, but rarity the offended party won't be appeased by anything less than the death of their offender.
Because of Alfan's amazing growing climate and famous cattle land, Alfan take great pride in having exquisite cuisine and is known for producing the greatest chefs in the world. Every Alfani family has at least one recipe they hand down from generation to generation, claiming to have been the originators of this or that dish. This leads to often loud but harmless arguments between neighbors and in-laws over how to properly prepare family classics known for their deep savory and slightly spicy flavors that blend soft-flesh fruits, dark grains, and fatty meats in unique casseroles, sauces, and flatbreads loaded with decadence.
