Soul-Breaker Islands

To the south of the Duchy of Fellmire lie the Soul-Breaker Islands. A chain of volcanic islands stretching like a carelessly laid necklace along an extended portion of the continental shelf. The Islands are uncomfortably close to the depths of The Plague Sea, and thus sees an inordinate amount of kaiju and other monstrous ocean denizens.   The razor sharp rocks just under the waterline make navigation between the islands a risky task under the best circumstances. Add to that rampaging monsters and Feimer raiders, and life in the Soul-Breaker Islands can be tenuous and fragile. But people do make a life here none the less.   The Soul-Breaker Islands are inhabited by the Salt-Kin peoples. They mainly inhabit three of the largest islands, but can be found inhabiting several of the smaller islands as well.   Pirates often hide amongst the smaller islands that can be more treacherous to navigate.   The three major inhabited islands are; Dezier, Desepir, and Deston.   The harbor town on Dezeir is well known for having a salacious reputation. Anything a body wants can be found in the harbor town of Port Metite.   Desepir is the main source of obsidian for the Coastal Realms. The mines here are worked by prisoners condemned to hard labor by the courts of the five duchies of mankind. There is more than one prisoner who claims to be falsely imprisoned by a jealous rival, or a treacherous twin, but who could believe such fantastic tales?   The largest town on the islands is Morgan's Town. It is located on the island of Deston. Morgan's Town is named after the famous pirate captain Morgan the Vile. His heir and daughter Morgana the Red can often be found here when she is not out hunting kaiju on her ship Deception.

Geography

The coasts of these islands are mostly composed of jagged rocks.  Only three of the largest islands have safely navigable bays, and the inevitable harbor towns are also present there.   On the islands interiors can be found rich volcanic soil, with the requisite abundance of incredibly varied flora, and an equally unique and brilliant fauna.

Natural Resources

Obsidian mines are the major source of wealth in the Soul-Breaker Islands.

History

The islands were first colonized by the captains and sailors of the armadas that made The Crossing but could not quit the sea and settle inland in the coastal realms.   They naturally turned to piracy, but the obsidian trade brings enough wealth to the islands to have drastically reduced the amount of piracy that occurs along the coasts of the Bright Lands.

Tourism

Port Metite is a draw for those who like to indulge in their, well, indulgences.
