Kapu (Kah-pu)

The Kapu are descendants of the Amanu forebearers residing east of Ahzrakan and Alara in the Age of Long Shadows most famously connected to the civilizations of Guruk, Tokor and Hmakha. Despite that, they Kapu are amongst the most far flung of all Amanu and reside virtually everywhere on Geron. The Kapu's tolerance for unforgiving cold and altitude changes allowed their kind to spread across the ice and cold of the Gatamarian Nightwinter, spreading far and wide into the verdant rainforests of south-eastern Torangh and Urzin, establishing many kingdoms including Guruk'Kha, Tuhrak, Leng, Tsomokan, Yulai and Asadal.

While Kapu tend to thrive in the cold elevations, they have also thrived in the warm archipelagos Urzin, having colonized distant Esyugon in the Age of Silent Kingdoms There are even rumors that Kapu have long persisted in distant and mysterious Tanaq'shan beyond the Far Sea.

Physiology

The Kapu are known for their large brains and livers that allow them to tolerate low-oxygen environments better than others. Their body-fat distribution is also very helfpul against the cold which makes the Kapu natural survivors in the mountains even where the air is thin and cold, yet despite this they tend to not have much in the way of body hair. The Kapu are well-acclimatized to the cold desert and scratch out a decent life in the icy northern regions. Somewhat uniquely, the Kapu also thrive amongst temperate and tropical island chains where their large livers and tolerance of oxygen deprivation come in handy for diving deep in search of food.
