Alara

"Tobesh the Giant's bones creaked and groaned, like the great ice mountains. By all acounts he was dead, but still he strained against his shackles." - Ramtha of Halcinae, Ythill and Beyond

Geography

Alara is a Cold wasteland of glaciers, windbitten plains and jagged coastline, perpetually buffeted by the Deadwind that comes from the Old Sarkand Rift. Year round blizzards, permanently frozen ground and the rebirth of the dead make Alara arguably the least hospitable of all the territories of Geron. Generally described as the Lands east of Yuresh Kantach and the Akonti Coast, Alara's south is composed of the Tundra and snowed in dwarf forests of Tunadar. North beyond is Taggak-Din, year-round covered in snow that accumulates against the windswept mountains which crumble onto the ice floes of the Frozen Sea. It is here one finds the bastion of Anyaghad deep below the surface, hidden to all but the Anyhag. Beyond that still, the islands of of Tekel'i, still since the Changeling War Interregnum War, except for the the Ithaquan city of Shulakan. In the far southeast, the Nahavir Kantach is roamed by the Erd, now within the territories of the Hyadian Reavers. The Kuhkalma Range, holy to the Erd and the Ithaq as the place of ancestrial burial, lies just before the gaping maw of the Old Sarkand Rift.

Archaea

The inhospitable cold of the Deadwind has left the Alaran countryside well preserved with Alaran ruins dating from the Cassildan Betrayal Interregnum. Much of the old ruins artifacts which can be found in the region are considered taboo by the Anyag due to the strange forces that plague the region. In the summer months, Hyadian reavers are known to push north into Alara, seemingly returning despite having been slain years ago.
