Aklon
“I discovered amongst towers and waves words that other men could not hear, and I pricked up my ears to listen to the revelation of their harmony.” - i]Abdul Sattar(character), @[The 13th Book
Lost House Kasbenir
After the Akkan-Shai won the Great War, they consolidated their power amongst the remains of House Kasbenir, ruling over Geron until the Great War Interregnum. The center of their grand alliance came to be known as 'Aklon', a place from which the Akkan-Shai worked tirelessly to prepare for the return of the Herald. During the Great War, many of the Akkan-Shai were forced into a hibernation-like state called Torpor. Many people believe that the sleeping Akkan-Shai are the source of the Dream Sickness, exacerbated by the events of the Fall Interregnum. The Th'afgan Monuments
Before its destruction, Aklon's hideous and grotesque masters pressed many races into slavery, mutating the least fortunate into the hideous Th'afga. the Th'afga toiled away at the behest of their masters, carving nauseating, Escherian structures on the ocean floor connected in some way to the return of the Herald. Above Aklon's waterline, the the towering ruins of Kasbenir show signs of life, thought to be occupied by mad cultists through which the Th'afga still perform the bidding of their masters. The Th'afga are also known to interact with the bastions more directly, sending diplomats seemingly motivated by the unusual appetites of their masters. There are those who believe the Th'afga are searching for something amongst the sunken cities of the Sister Seas, combing through the mud and murk which smothering its most ancient of ruins. The Stinking Slaveships
The most industrious and terrifying of the Th'afga command Sea Hives, great mobile colonies of coral and sponge, bent to the will of the Akkan-Shai by the putrid mucous thought to be harvested from the cocoons of the Sleeping Masters. The Sea Hives allow the Th'afga to comfortably roam the coasts, collecting slaves and administering to their dark duties. Legend has it that in age of antiquity, one such hive ship is said to have washed up in in Lost Bahar, having been battered by a freak storm. Those foolish enough to have explored its remains told horrific stories about dank, constricted passages full of mind-poisoning mucus, of living walls riddled with the dead, and even of huge, man-eating worms and aggressive crab-like creatures the size of horses prowling the stinking depths. Sightings of Sea Hives are becoming more frequent in the Three Seas in recent times, though perhaps 'sighting' is a misnomer. The unmistakable stench of such a structure bobbing along with the ocean current is often the surest sign of such an event.Torpor and the Sleeping Masters
It's known to the slave races of the Akkan-Shai that their perception of time is such that they can and often do sleep for thousands of years, an event known as 'Torpor'. Inexplicably, the majority of ancient Akkan-Shai appear to slumber simultaneously, leaving their dedicated servants to care for them until they wake again. Their psionic abilities are thought to be potent but aimless during slumber, causing a strange madness called the 'Dream Sickness' which ebbs and flows with the stars. A rare few Akkan-Shai avoid the Torpor through lichdom and other potent forms of necromancy, one such creature which is rumored to rule over the Mixcal. The Dream Sickness
The astronomers of Shinar have noticed that the strength of the Dream Sickness can be predicted to some degree by the stars present in the night sky. On nights when shooting stars will be plentiful, the Dream Sickness is likely to have a greater effect.
