The Power of Night

Darkness is one of the common primordial domains, most often seeming to align with deities of death, decay and cold. The more nuanced truth is that Darkness is an essential counterpoint to Light, just as necessary for survival of people withering beneath the noon sun as light and fire in the dead of winter. Without the night, the sun would scour away the lakes and rivers, wither plants to nothing. Those who wield the domain of darkness can bring relief and shelter, but their greatest power lies in the dead of night or in the lost and hidden places beneath Geron's surface.   Unlike some other more nuanced domains, Darkness provides a pretty clear and simple advantage and disadvantage to those who pursue it. All Darkness magic is Darkened for no additional casting cost, making it extremely effective against Bright things. Inversely, the wielder of Darkness is a Dark thing themselves, benefiting in one way or another from the three signs of the Mark of Darkness at night or in otherwise dark places. The three signs of the Mark of Darkness all give wielders of the Darkness domain an increasing advantage in Dark tiles and an increased disadvantage in Bright tiles.

Mark of Darkness

Magic wielders who suffer the Mark of Darkness become Dark things, radiating darkness like any other darkened object would. For each point spent on mage class skills, the character exudes equivalent darkness, following all the normal rules for lighting. This makes it exceptionally easy for those with the Mark of Darkness to hide in shadows or other places, but makes it exceptionally hard for their Darkness to go unnoticed in a brightly lit area. This also means that Light-based magic causes damage to those with the Mark of Darkness up to as many points as they are Dark.   The Mark of Darkness has three signs, Dark Spirit, Dark Senses and Dark Embrace.
Dark Spirit
Being in a Bright tile causes you to lose Willpower and Presence points equal to the brightness of the tile you're in. You can only lose as much Willpower as you have points in Dark Will. You regain the points as soon as you are no longer in the Bright tile.   Being in a Dark tile causes you to gain Willpower and Presence points equal to the darkness of the tile you're in. You can only gain as much Willpower as you have points in Dark Will. You lose the points as soon as you are no longer in the Dark tile. You may only spend as many points gained this way each day as you have points in Dark Spirit.
