Dergu

Dergu is the quintessental deity of the cthonic darkness and dirt. Dergu is invoked over graves and fallow fields, thought to keep the roots, trees and the spirits of the dead chained to the world below. To some, he stole the moon's shadow. To others, she is mother to the dead and the earth is her womb. Others see Dergu as the third sister of fate, the cutter of threads. Whether a society sees Dergu in ravens wheeling over the battlefield or in the shadow of the mountains, the truth is that Dergu is neither good nor evil. The seed needs the darkness and the soil for protection just as much as it will later need the light.
