WorldEmber New Year Resolutions 2025

Goals for 2025

Written by Endrise

The only goal I promise to keep on here is that 10k word goal every year.

Another year has come to an end and with it more worldbuild has been done with this year's WorldEmber. So now, I'll be reading some stuff and give my new year's resolutions for this year!

New Years Resolutions

I'm not sure how much of this year I got for big resolutions, but I think the big part as usual is trying to get more stuff out of the eternal WIP progress and actually be finished. So don't expect a lot of new articles but do expect me to rework some older ones.

Another resolution I'd make is just to look at who I follow on here and do some cleaning. "Dead" worlds, abandoned accounts, and seeing what people actually end up writing here. Just so that my notifications and follows are a bit more active with stuff I like reading or seeing.

This also includes worlds that use genAI imagery for their stuff, because at this point I sadly cannot support it in any shape no matter how harmless the intentions are. I just don't like seeing it, so apologies if I end up unfollowing you because you use genAI.

10 Articles to Look at

Jabberwock

E. Christopher Clark is always a treat when it comes to their shorter articles, and the Jabberwock is a nice addition to that list. A fun take on the draconic beast with a fun ability, short but effective at what it does. As always, I just recommend you follow them!

Jabberwock
Species | Dec 26, 2024

Jabberwocks are a subspecies of dragon characterized by their ability to speak—albeit at such speed and with such excitement that they sound as if they’re talking nothing but nonsense.

Pranking at the university

I should give my hand with more in-universe documents sometimes. I like the many ideas how a magic school can have magical pranks, and also the possibilities such pranks get worse. Go give Amélie I. S. Debruyne a follow to see more of this story!

Pranking at the university
Tradition / Ritual | Mar 1, 2025

A fine & ancient tradition upheld by students since the foundation of the University of Lille. Aimed at buildings, statues, friends, disliked classmates, or even professors, they are a fun way to practice magic & gain experience in managing group project.

Siren's Scroll

Another fun bit of worldbuilding with E. Christopher Clark, I always appreciate smaller stuff that explores normal day itmes and usages, and the Siren's scroll is a fun idea too to make a magazine more fantastical. Again, go follow them if you haven't already!

Siren’s Scroll
Document | Dec 27, 2024

The Siren’s Scroll is a monthly lifestyle and entertainment magazine best known for its nude and semi-nude pin-up illustrations.

Lichdom

And as usual Jon is here with peak art and writing, this time about a topic I really like: immortality and spooky skeletons. Really enjoyed how they approached some of the elements of Liches, how they function and even having a final phase form when rejecting death. Definitely a must read like all their other work!

Lichdom
Rank/Title | Apr 3, 2025

The road to avoid death is paved only by casting away that which made life not worth losing.

Promise Vouchers

Dimitris Romeo Havlidis I always like seeing what Dimitris brews up from time to time, and another small item telling a history in the setting is great to have. Really wished it had a bit more going for it, but what's here is already a pretty good short article to go through!

Sea Scabs

I'm always a sucker for conditions that apply to specific species, whether they be allergic effects or side effects of their abilities. Sea Scabs is another simple article that benefits from this, so go follow Tanai Cuinsear!

Sea Scabs
Condition | Jan 2, 2025

A skin condition causing itching and some fur loss in shifters.

Honey Nut Bacon

Another favourite of mine, food worldbuilding. If an article makes me hungry to try it, it does something good. Haly the Moonlight Bard does a good job showing how it is made and the little lore it has helps make it even more fun to read about.

Fire Giant

Theiket sure pushed out a lot of articles this year, and just having a simple one about Fire Giants is always nice to see. I like the ideas they value stories and more over simple currency for their services, alongside being born in the depths of the world. Should be something I also explore some day as well.

Red Rock

Sometimes all a good idea needs is a good premise executed well. Redrock is simple but helps well to illustrate its ideas with good art and some good questions to be answered. Lance McKenath definitely deserves more follows for this alone, as they earned mine for sure!

Theft of the Moons

And lastly, a fun myth written by Devin about how lunar eclipses get turned to legends. I always appreciate it when there's also some implied variation and the cultural effects of such a legend. Do kinda wish they put more emphasis on the misadventures though.

While I would love to go on an adventure, writing them is enough for me.
