Truths and Lies

Reveal what is hidden, open was what sealed.
— Dismas

Dismas is the god of thieves and truths, the fabled phantom that shows the world for what it truly is. No secret is too hidden for him, no treasure too protected.

Divine Goals

As a god of truths, Dismas seeks to unveil the secrets of the world where possible. To reveal the conspiracies and lies perpatuated, and expose the true intentions of all.

Physical Description

Appearance

Dismas is portrayed as a man tattooed from head to toe, most noitceably with the drawing of two shattering chains coiling around his arms. Keys and padlocks are common theme as well, with a keyhole right between the collarbones and the palm of each hand.

Depictions of his face with a mask covering the lower half, giving emphasis on his black hair and hooded figure. The rest of his outfit consists of leather gloves, a sleeveless shirt and a tool belt with an assortment of bags and lockpicking tools.

What people will notice most is the chain of padlocks he carries around his neck, with at the center a Handlens Key of his own, very first one ever supposedly made.

Abilities

As a deity of thievery and truths, Dismas knows no lock he cannot break. Does not matter if they are physical, magical or otherwise. If it can be opened, he can open it.

No lie goes unseen by him either, as he is fully aware when somebody is telling the truth or not. This does however not work should someone believe what they are saying is true or allows him to know the real answer regardless, only if they are hiding information.

Dismas can also pry information out of people through his Handlens Key, breaking through mental locks to access knowledge buried within one's mind.

Blessings

Those blessed by Dismas gain senses that can look past people's lies. Eyes that see through illusions, ears that hear falsehoods, just so they can see the world for what it truly is.

Curses

Those unfortunate enough to be cursed by Dismas are forced to speak only in honesty. Not as simple as telling the truth, but making them say things as they truly think.

Mental Characteristics

Personal History

Life

The tale of Dismas began as that of any fabled rogue: a thief of the streets, born in the depths of a trade city on Sichelan. From a young age he crawled his way up the ladder by robbing riches and earning his infamy, becoming the stuff of legends in only a few years.

Whenever a city became aware of his robberies, the man would vanish and move to another, ending up everywhere across the continent. One year he could threaten the roads between two random towns, another he was breaking into the mansions of the upper class. No person was above him to steal or take from, as long they had something to take.

One day as he traversed Faramund, Dismas met a noble by the name of Katherine. As the two talked, a romance bloomed between both, leading to him prolonging his stay in the city.

Every night he came over to visit her at her balcony, behind the eyes and ears of the rest of her family. For the first time in his career he felt love, even considering to surrender it for her so they could be together. At least, before he uncovered a secret that changed him forever.

One of his break-ins led to him discovering a full on conspiracy involving the corruption of major figures, systematically threatening the world by doing so. It did not take long for him to expose these secrets, causing many noble figures to be revealed for what they were.

Everything from mere manipulation of power to alliances with fiendish and Angelic forces, his name became a threat to all with a hidden agenda. Dismas himself grew paranoid however, struggling to trust others or even his own mind as he spiralled into conspiracy. His efforts also put a target on him, as many both mortal and greater sought to stop him from exposing more.

This paranoia drove him only further away from others, especially Katherine. As his efforts grew more fixated on revealing the truth, Dismas's trust in her crumbled, vanishing from Faramund one night without a word. Leaving Katherine none the wiser of his situation.

His efforts to expose the truth came to a violent end when he was betrayed by a fellow thief, stabbed within his lair and left to be found by authorities. Only a few days later was he sentenced to death, hung for his crimes and buried in an unmarked grave.

Legacy

Even though he died as a nobody, Dismas' legacy stirred awake people across the continent to see the truth. Several nobles exposed for their association with outsider forces came out one after another, dismantling their activities right there and setting their plans back decades.

His death did not stop people from exposing the upper class either: suspicion in the upper class was at an all time high, causing many to follow in his footsteps to expose them. Multiple gangs, guilds and other organisations rose up carrying on Dismas's legacy, working from the shadow to dismantle conspiracies across Fabulae.

Alongside that came his personification as a deity, gaining cult-like worship with the years after. Only in the last 150 years did his cult became popular enough to be public, often in association with the Church of the Wandering Flame's corruption during the age of silence.

Mannerisms

Dismas is a very paranoid individual, kindhearted but hard to trust anyone. His later years learning the world was against him led to a very isolated nature, struggling to work close with anyone. However, it does not mean it is impossible either.

Even to his closest allies is he hard to give out information about himself. He is willing to share crucial details where needed, but many details about his origins and more are a closed book. At best what he does tell is contradictory, often coming up with multiple answers.
