Personal history

The Clockwork King was once a gnome named 111. It was created by Rain expressly to become a god. Being put through years of torture, 111's soul awoke to divinity in order to attempt to escape its hell. But this was exactly what Rain wanted. She implanted 111 into the shell she had dubbed 'the clockwork god' to be used as a power source.   Rain was then sealed away by Diavalo, Atlus, and Midorine for attempting to create gods. But with her out of the picture, Diavalo launched an attack on his former allies, beginning the events of the Cataclysm. During this time, Rain's once thralls, the gnomes, discovered the Clockwork King and his control rods and used him to hunt down and defeat Diavalo before he could completely swallow the world in darkness.   The first gnomes then took the Clockwork King and founded the Clockwork Empire, using the King as an icon to rally support and eventually form the Clockwork Church. The King being little more than a shell, had no ideas or thoughts on religion, but that didn't stop the first gnomes to use its name to persecute sorcerers for being used by Diavalo for his plans. Because of this, the Clockwork King eventually became known not as a weapon, but as a god, and wars were waged 'in his name' while his inner clergy schemed and reveled in the mass delusion they held their country under.
