The Boneyard

  • The Boneyard. . . A name that instills fear into the heart of every practitioner of true magic that hears it. To put things simply, the boneyard is a place where mages go to die.
  • Located in the heart of the Necrotic Wastes, the Boneyard is a mining operation orchestrated by the Clockwork empire to harvest source and other similar materials from the depths of the wastes while risking as little of their own manpower doing so.   The town is built entirely on a large platform on elevated stilts that offer it something almost resembling protection from the rot of the wastes below. The houses are small, built for practicality, offering nothing more than a small stove and indentations in the walls in which to sleep.   As the settlement is located in the wastes it is entirely reliant on the train line that comes in once every month with food, water, and supplies. As well as oftentimes, more workers.   Life here is not easy. And intentionally so. The empire sends sorcerers and wizards they capture here as punishment for pursuing magical arts. Here they are required to serve the empire in their goals, with their magical power being an asset, allowing them to survive a little bit longer than others in the wastes, and therefor improving overall company profit margins.   The Comandante of the Boneyard is, by necessity, a monster. The Empire expects results, and any weak willed commanders who treated the mage slaves with anything resembling pity were quickly removed and replaced. But Wilhelm von Kalmen is a rare specimen indeed. A human man standing 7’8, he is a rare site in the Wuld not only for his race, but for his shear size. It is said that the blood of the giant ancient humans still flows through his veins. He is a harsh and cruel man, but never needlessly so. He believes that to run a city populated entirely by filth like mages, one must establish fear.   And Kalmen has put a great deal of work into ensuring his prisoners fear him. Before accepting the position, Kalmen willingly underwent the Church’s rite to become an inquisitor. He is now imbued with unnatural strength, speed, and stamina and can even shrug off the effects of many spells. He has put down many a pariah amongst mages himself and with his bare hands.

    Demographics

Most of the people here are mages of one kind or another, and all are young and of able bodies. The old do not last long. The imperial guards here are almost all well built warforged models or their cruder but more dangerous cousins, the gearforged. However, there is a small contingent of Imperial troops stationed here as well. Even if they rarely leave the safety of the guardhouse.
