Simmsmout

Simmsmout is the heart of the Clockwork Empire. It is a massive layered city standing several stories tall with wide interconnecting corridors. This layered city stands well above 100 stories tall, with the rich and wealthy living in the upper layers of the city, with many of the poor workers living in the undercity, below the ground in the factories and mines that plunge deep into the earth beneath the city.

Demographics

Mostly gnomes, goblins, and tritons, although there are a smattering of nearly every other race living here as well.

Government

Simmsmout's government, while described as an 'Empire' is more of an alliance between several major corporations and the Chuch of the Clockwork King. There are six major companies, Jordan, Kodansha, Viciti Machina, Medica Mechanica, Tatiani Habitationi, and Letelo Peche. Each company operates independently and communicate with each other in closed board room meetings either on a one on one basis, or all together, to determine things such as taxation, city zoning, military movements, and city policing. The Church is backed by the Clockwork King and acts as a sort of intermediary between the major corporations.

Defences

Simmsmout is guarded by heavy walls of concrete and iron nearly 300ft tall topped with powerful magitech cannons.

Industry & Trade

Simmsmout is a major trade hub. They deal mostly in metals and technology.

Infrastructure

Simmsmout is the very model of a modern post Cataclysm city. It has running water, sewers, massive subterranean factories, and shipyards. Furthermore, there are several academies in this city, ranging from smaller company run groups, to the grand Imperial Academy of the Clockwork Empire which is run and sponsored by the church.

Guilds and Factions

The adventurer's guild has an outpost in this city, but has limited work within the city as the government does not offer them much work.

History

Simmsmout was carefully planned by the Clockwork King and built over the course of several centuries. After Diavalo was slain and the cataclysm came to an end, the Clockwork King stood watch on the coast near to where the ruins of Diavalo's fallen kingdom. The ravages of war had turned most of the world into an inhospitable wasteland so the few remaining gnomes, goblins, and triton of the area sought shelter around where the Clockwork King stood.   The King felt pity for the mortals and granted them protection in exchange for their service. He began instructing many of them how to build structures and devices. And while some of these objects were bizarre and their purpose unknown to their builders, they made them anyway. Over the course of nearly five hundred years, the carefullly laid plans of the Clockwork King slowly became apparent as his servants built a massive city with a perfectly interconnected infrastructural system. This allowed for members of the city to live in relative comfort, and focus on a variety of enterprises, eventually leading towards the foundations of the principle companies.   The Empire was among the first superpowers to reemerge after the Cataclysm, and they began trade with other surviving settlements as early as 200 years after the Cataclysm. However, they have butted heads with the Sylvian Imperium on occasion.

Architecture

Simmsmout is mostly made of steel, bronze, and glass.
