Half-Breeds
Many of the original races of the Etherium possess the capacity to interbreed with races other than their own. The offspring of such unions have a mix of both lineages physicality and often any of their natural talents, including arcane gifts. However despite any obvious similarities to the "parent" races, these Half-Breeds are often met with suspicion, racism and general mal-intent. Some have created miniature communities but most attempt to mix with one of their parent cultures if they can find acceptance among them. Plenty have made lives for themselves among the Free Spheres where prejudices are not as strong.
The most common of these mixed bloodlines are as such,
- Orcaanish / Half-Orc: Many varieties of mixed orc lineages exist due to the Iron Cohorts predilection for the capturing of the females of those whom they raided and pillaged. In addition the Fayen Collective encouraged Human and Orc mixing in an attempt to "domesticate" the savages. These are the most common mixings, Orc-Human, Orc-Dwarf, Orc-Elf, Orc-Goliath, Orc-Goblinoid & Orc-Triton. Other mixes are possible but these are the only documented examples. Strangely no matter how far down the lineage a Half-Orc is from the pure Orc bloodline, the Orc traits are always dominate presenting in obvious ways.
- Fayelites / Half-Elves: Elves are highly protective of their magical bloodlines largely only mixing with other races strong in magic. However in an attempt to curb the more barbaric aspects of Humanity as well as attempting to ignite the spark of magic within them, the Elves encouraged the interbreeding of their two people. Elf-Human hybrids treated with a rather bipolar perspective, with those with Magical Talents lauded as examples of how great Elven blood is even diluted, and those without the Arcane Spark are shunned and swept under the proverbial rug.
- Cathids / Half-Cat: The Leonides and Felinix people are an amorous group and have sweet talked their way into the lives of many of the races of the Etherium who often view them as exoticly enticing. The children of such unions bear their mark and can be found in many places, are the most common mixings are, Tabaxi-Human, Tabaxi-Elf, Tabaxi-Gnome & Tabaxi-Halfling.
Naming Traditions
Family names
Half-Breeds take the Family name of one of their Parent's races. Although many reject both names as they themselves are often rejected by both races.
Other names
Half-Breeds use whatever naming conventions come from their "parent" races, often mixing the two to create a unique hybrid name.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
Mostly Half-Breeds seek those of their same mixing or one of their two halves, but those who can accept them for themselves and not for their mixed parentage are treated with great favor.
