Redcliff Tower
Red Rocks Tower or Tower On The Red Rocks
Red Rocks Tower or Tower On The Red Rocks
REDCLIFF TOWER has hung tenaciously to the sandy hillock overlooking both the RAEM lands and their wide shoreline. Originally built to fend off CUTH raiders, it has done that and more for more years than most folks remember. The tower is the primary Seat of the RAEM family and has been for generations.
Years of raiding, seashore weather and other eroding factors have left their mark on REDCLIFF Tower. Many of the stones are old and ill-fitting while the tower has a barely noticeable lean stemming from its sandy foundations shifting after generations. The RAEM family have held the tower for that long and it is an important part of their family but they struggle to maintain it even in good years.
Purpose / Function
REDCLIFF Tower has some poorly weathered stone and mortar but it still stands as an observation post, rally point and the RAEM family Seat and home. At this time, only LORD RAEM and his Heir, SER PADRAL THE YOUNGER, reside within the Tower itself. The soldiery attached to the Tower bivouack outside the Tower in a large tent that has been shored up (from inside to avoid prying eyes) with boards and cloth-stuffed cracks and tacked to the inside of the palisade for protection from the in-shore gusts.
Alterations
The tower bears the mark of several different decades of craftsmanship styles and techniques. Unfortunately, none of them are less than forty years old. While, from various angles, it appears as if all manner of alterations have been made due to the ill-matching tones of the stone used in its walls--the tower appears much like it always has in the past. The lack of regular maintenance has reduced its effectiveness but not blunted it entirely.
Defenses
In times of peace, the Tower has two knights (LORD PADRAS RAEM, PADRAS ne'RAEM, four (4) Crossbowmen, four (4) Men-at-Arms, and fourteen (14) Footmen. The actual numbers vary due to patrols, duties on behalf of Lord Raem and sometimes escorting individuals through the RAEM lands-if requested and granted by the LORD.
