Elves

Classification: Common Race   (Sub-race information varies by sub-race, see sub-race article for specification)   Elves are the first and oldest of the mortal races. Initially brought into existence by The Lord of Games, Elves were soon after separated into several subraces, having ties to different gods in their origin.   Elves do, however, possess universal traits as a species. All Elves tend to be viewed as relatively aloof by the other mortal races, owing to their extremely long lifespans and their ability to be reborn into a new body following their death. They also tend to be somewhat isolationist, with Elves preferring to generally stay within the company of other Elves away from the other mortal races, though due to their desire to accrue new memories it is not uncommon for younger Elves to seek out some form of adventure. All Elves possess a natural aptitude for the arcane, likely owing to their direct creation by one of the gods of magic, but some Elves opt to dismiss this natural talent in pursuit of more physical endeavors, which they are also suited to due to their innate finesse.   Elves possess a unique behavior in the form of a trance, a state of mind they enter in lieu of sleeping. During this trance, Elves can re-live moments of their past lives and, upon reaching a particular level of maturity, their current life. It is for this reason Elves prioritize experiences and memories over physical gains, as those memories are timeless to an Elf.   Lastly, Elves have a tendency to look down their nose at other races, with some even going to the lengths of viewing the shorter-lived races as "pointless", for what purpose could a race that lives a fraction of an Elf's lifespan and cannot be reborn serve? This is a somewhat extremist view, however, and should you befriend an Elf they will be steadfast and reliable, albeit a bit detached.   For more on Elven subraces, see:   High Elves   Wood Elves   Dark Elves   Eladrin
