Wood Elves

Category: Common Race    Among the Elven sub-races, Wood Elves are the most attuned to the natural world around them. Created by Thaemenar so that they might grow the natural world and be its caretakers, Wood Elves are fond of living in dense woodlands away from the societies of other mortal races, where they tend to the wildlife and facilitate its growth. Wood Elves tend to be isolationists, but not for the same reasons as High Elves. Rather, it tends to be a combination of their tendency to establish their communities in forests, and their animosity toward those who would cut down the trees to build settlements.   Wood Elf communities are fairly distinct from each other with regards to how they feel about outsiders. In Torvahl, there are several Wood Elf communities, all with a varying level of friendliness to the non-Elves they meet.   The Wood Elves of the great Elven city of Alea'thesai are fairly warm to those who travel into their wood, and have a reputation for aiding lost travelers who pass through, leading them back to one of the roads that pass through their forest. They've even been known to, on occasion, allow non-Elves to make their homes in the community, provided those individuals share the cultural values of the Wood Elves there.   The Wood Elves residing in the forest of Ellia's Rest are even more hospitable, making frequent trips from their forest to the settlement of Elfpoint that exists slightly outside their borders to trade or socialize. Elfpoint serves as an effective merging point between the Wood Elves and non-Wood Elves in the area, and so the Elves who live in Ellia's Rest have adopted many non-Elven customs and behaviors as a result, setting them apart from most Wood Elf communities, to the point where some more purist Wood Elves go as far as to say that they are not "true" Wood Elves.   The Wood Elves who live in the shadowy trees of Darkwood Forest, on the other hand, are a stark contrast to those found in Ellia's Rest or Alea'thesai. They are fiercely protective of their lands, and do not suffer outsiders, even other Wood Elves. While they do not kill intruders on sight, it is entirely not out of the question should said intruders continue into their forest despite being warned. As such, they are somewhat of a mystery when compared to other Wood Elf communities. If you are not born within their forest, it is likely they do not want you there.   Wood Elves are slightly shorter than other Elves, with tan or copper skin, and similarly brown, black, copper, or occasionally red hair. They have green, brown, or hazel eyes, and particularly keen vision, as among all the Elves, Wood Elves are the best hunters and trackers. They possess the same natural skill in magic that all Elves do, but this is usually channeled into Druidic pursuits due to their immense respect for nature, and they tend to shy away from the Arcane through other means, as they view such usage of magic as "unnatural".
