Amridge

Amridge, the Tinkerer's Aspect, is where the inventors, artisans, alchemists and scientists thrive. It is where one can always find the newest technologies and findings, although some workshops are quite dangerous to be around...   Amridge is the youngest of all the aspects, having been established as an own province in the year 411 CY. Before this, it was the third Miennan hold. However, the people of Amridge became a more and more independent people, wanting to develop their new technologies without splitting their profit in three. After a 6-year period of negotiations, Amridge became a fully independent province on the 8th of Sirdes 411, changing the Seven Aspects into today's Eight Aspects.   The climate in Amridge is a harsh and cold tundra, covered in snow almost all year round. Yet, although it is a cold and barren land, it is still populated very well. Skyehold, Amridge's capital city, lies in the south, along the coast of Nessur's Eye. This is the most populated city and is also where a large number of imports and exports go through.   Across Syoll, Amridge is known for its technological developments and inventions. One of the more important of these inventions is that of the airship, which is used equally for trade and entertainment. Certain settlements in Amridge specialize in airship tourism, especially Skyehold in the west and Zheford in the east.

Culture

The fundamental Part of Amran culture is knowledge and inspiration. Those who spend their days in pursuit of new solutions and strategies are highly revered in society. This also raises the value of the truth. Lying is a terribly offensive thing to do in Amridge, an offence towards their core beliefs of gaining true knowledge.

History

Amridge was once a hold of Miennach. When important discoveries were made and inventions started selling all over Syoll, two-thirds of the export profits went to the other two holds. This was always a sore spot for Amrans. As this growth continued, the people started protesting. This culminated in the decision to hold a vote of independence, which was won in a landslide, although Amrans also voted to remain a part of Syoll (as opposed to founding a new country). Thus, on the 8th of Sirdes, 411 CY, the Seven Aspects became the Eight. Skyehold was declared the capital, and Amridge's economy grew rapidly over the next millennium.

Demography and Population

Amridge attracts those curious souls who wish to discover the world and what makes it work. It is home to some of the best schools, academies and colleges and, consequently, a great deal of the population is still in their younger years.   The largest part of the people live either in one of the two cities, Skyehold and Zheford, or spread across the countryside in one of the residencies of the many schools or scientific organizations.   The population of Amridge has been growing slowly but steadily for the last centuries, due to a high quality of healthcare and thus low death rates, with birth rates remaining relatively stable.

Agriculture & Industry

The land in Amridge—much like in Miennach—is mostly barren, meaning that there is little to no agriculture. Whenever there is some sort of agriculture, it is always on a small scale and often conducted as a hobby or a means of research.   Amran industry, however, is much larger and more profitable. Ranging from smaller tools right up to massive innovations, all kinds of clever things are manufactured there and distributed all across Syoll. Recently, an industry for heightened medicines has developed there, creating an altogether new pharmaceutical industry, focused in Zheford.

Trade & Transport

Interprovincial trade in Amridge is conducted in two major ways: ships and airships. Ships, the more traditional strategy, transport goods by travelling across Nessur's Eye, docking in Skyehold or one of the smaller port towns along the coast. For longer journeys, however, airships are the more common method. These port in larger towns or cities only, but compensate by being able to fly over Ellion Dula instead of sailing around it. Of course, the Lake Road also plays an important part in trade, as it does in every Aspect.   Within Amridge itself, trade runs along wide, mostly paved roads. Although smaller airships do sometimes travel over Amridge, usually it is too expensive and a waste of resources for there-and-back trips. In the winter, when there is heavy snow coverage, Amrans prefer to use sledges pulled by dogs—or, more rarely, domesticated dire wolves—to travel. This traditional travel method is, however, forecasted to be replaced by newer technologies that are currently in development.

Education

Amran education is some of the best. It is well-regarded and the regular curriculum entails more elements than other aspects' fundamental schools. The universities and colleges in Amridge are also of a very high quality, as well as many practical schools. It can, however, be very expensive sometimes, since there are a large amount of private schools, which aren't funded by the state, and therefore have very high costs.
