Skyehold

Skyehold is the capital of Amridge and its busiest city. Situated along the southwestern shore, it has a comparatively moderate climate. Although it is built on flat land, it looks to be on a hill, with a great tower in the centre that reaches for the skies. From the sides, three great bridges pass over the lower parts of the city, granting direct access to the markets at the foot of the tower.

People and Culture

Skyehold is one of the wealthiest cities in Syoll, and has the reputation of having a very private and individualistic society. Its richest citizens are some of the richest in Syoll, however, quite a large part of the population still lives in the Lower Circle, having only just enough to get by and relying on welfare systems.   Commonly, people in Skyehold work either in tourism, trade, or research, while a lot of people are also sailors and airmen in retirement. Overall, there is great diversity among the people, and are known to be generous hosts (though this has been criticised, since most such guests are of a higher social class).   Skyehold is separated into four districts: Thislam Wharf, The Lower Circle, The Hill and Rodran's Spire.   Thislam's Wharf is the harbour of Skyehold, a district with many of the cheaper inns and taverns, heavily populated by sailors passing through and waiting for their next trip. The establishments themselves are not expensive or of a high class and yet they are all very well maintained. The Lower Circle is where the poorer people of Skyehold live, with makeshift buildings and overall poor living conditions. It forms a ring around the bottom part of the city, with the bridges to the city passing overhead. Newly established welfare systems and charities have throughout the 14th century developed and many parts of the city were renovated. The Hill is the busiest district, it's streets bustling with tourists and residents alike, all making their way between taverns, shops and other establishments. It is also where the people of the middle classes live. Rodran's Spire, name of the great tower in the centre of the city, is reserved solely for the richest of Skyhold, and the more expensive establishments. At the very top is a docking station for the larger airships, some for trade but most for travel.

Industry and Trade

Skyehold thrives off tourism and trade. It has the largest airship dock in Syoll, where imports are brought into the province and exports are prepared to be distributed all across the other seven Aspects. A lot of the tools invented and manufactured in all of Amridge are sold through Skyehold, as well as processed and improved products from other Aspects.

Architecture

The most notable constructions in Skyehold are the great bridges that curve over the Lower Circle and Rodran's Spire, which were both considered marvels of their time. Skyehold is known widely as a leader of modern architecture and is seen as the pinnacle of innovation. This reputation was only strengthened since the establishment of the Unaided Carriage in 1385, which transports the people across the Hill faster than any other mode of travel.

"No city inspires more people than the City of the Future. I truly believe it shall shine the light that guides us further, and will forever lead our culture and peoples into brighter ages. It is the very pinnacle of society, and the example we will all inevitably follow."
