The Institute of Magical Analytics
The Institute of Magical Analytics, often simply refered to as the IMA, was a teaching and research centre for the development of the Arcane Arts which was founded in the city of Quarowl in 2280 APC.
It was modelled on the much older Institute of Magical Knowledge (the IMK) which had perfomed a similar function at Honirham for the Old Pale Empire.
Although never openly stated, a clear goal for the scholars working at the institution was to develop an alternative to Arcane Amplification Perfume that would be outside the control of the aristocrats of Highloft. This would eventually be achieved with the development of Synaptic Unbinding Potion but not for almost seven hundred years.
Structure
The leader of the IMA was known as the Arcane Chancellor.
Public Agenda
The IMA and its Arcane Chancellor were closely associated with the movement that led to the formation of the Moderators' Council in 2412 APC.
History
For many centuries, the IMA was closely identified with the city of Quarowl where it was founded in 2280 APC.
During the Second Popular Ascendancy the rise of the Defenders of the Common Grace unsettled the leadership and in 3718 APC, a tradition of almost one and a half thousand years was broken when it relocated to Ralsimoor where it was felt that the populace would be more accepting of its policies and practices.
The IMA (just like the The Free Union of Magical Scholars) was badly damaged by the "reforms" of the Limit Protectorate in the 52nd century APC but it was not completely abolished and it regained some of its former glory under the Loyalist Thaumatic Army Council.
When Ralsimoor was destroyed by the mad mage Ixthamon in 5937 APC, however, the IMA was finally and utterly destroyed as well. It is thought that his rage against Ralsimoor was based in large part on their existence in the city.
